E-Bay Monitors............

I am in the market for a new computer monitor and saw some over at E-Bay that are allegedly 'New And In The Box'.

How can an individual have new....and unused......products?

Anybody have any experience with these, and if so, what was your experience?

Personally, I think you'd be better off to go to TigerDirect.com or NewEgg.com to buy a monitor.

Ed,

I just finished putting in some new memory that I ordered from Newegg, which I have also used for almost all my computer needs.

That said, I am in the market for a Dell monitor, which they don't seem to carry.

Any thoughts on my original post?

They fell off a truck?

There are many things I'd purchase on eBay...but a monitor isn't one of them.

Sometimes they are new and sometimes they aren't. There, did that help

I'm currently using a G5 tower and Dell monitor that I bought on eBay. They work fine.

It will depend on the reputability of the seller.

Anthony,

Thanks. Good points.........

This seller seems to have been selling for quite a while and, if you can believe the page, has a good reputation...

A'ha. Your original post didn't indicate that you're shopping for a Dell Monitor.

"e-bay" I've both bought and sold on e-bay and never had a problem. I'd say that the monitors you're seeing as "New in the box" are probably just that. Just read through the feedback on the seller and if there isn't very much negative, go for it.

Yeah, I've had good luck and bad luck with eBay products. The most direct correlation I've found as a predictor of my experience is the feedback ratings. I'll typically only deal with people with 100+ feedback in the +98% range.

He could have bought a lot from a company and is looking to sell them individually, lots of people seem to do that on E-bay.

I'd buy a monitor from a decent store sooner than I'd buy from ebay. Usually the price difference is negligable between what is offered on ebay (including shipping) than what is found at a store even with the price including sales tax. You will be using the monitor often, so if it breaks, having the ability to return it exchange it is nice.

To boot, usually at a store, you have a bigger chance of finding an actual monitor in the box, and not some rocks.

I never saw an LCD monitor get "burn-in" until I got a Dell LCD at work.
