John and Kate plus 8 at it again.

Looks like Kates true colors are coming out? perhaps due to the seperation? Heres a pic of Kate spanking one of her children?! (Leah) Take a good look at the pic, I may be wrong but it looks like shes puching the poor kid (closed fist) to me!
Unbelievable!

You're wrong. Her hand is clearly open. And sometimes kids need to be spanked.

Who has a kid that has not wanted to punch them at least once**********???? If you say no, your lying.

My two sons have driven nuts at times and while they are the the joy of my life and both make me very proud, sometimes they are the most aggravating thing on the face of the planet. Then later after everyone calms down, life is good and you do something fun or they impress you with their ingenious ways. If I did not have them, my life would be pretty empty and boring, but sometimes, just for a second, yea, boring would be great.

Gotta disagree. I never once thought of hitting my Son, or did, and I can
assure you growing up right outside of Philly , he tested me every day.
There is a reason a more aware public is shunning this modern day witch-floggery.
I was beat on all the time as a kid by various overseers and school people and
I credit that with my supreme distrust/dislike of authoritarian figures, even today.
Beating a child is a traumatic experience for them. If you beat a kid in a fit of
rage I GUARANTEE you are hitting them on a level of what some DCS people would
call 'abuse'.

OK, point of clarification, when I say punch, I guess I really meant slap or spank. Yea, I never thought about punching. I have never once punched, hit, slapped my kids. They have tested me beyond belief, but while I might think about it, I walk away until cooler heads are at work and then discuss it later.

For me, 15 and 18 were the worst ! Wow...
If I tried to hit my Son at 18 I think he would have flattened me anyway

Yea, mine are 15 and 18 now. I think their last spanking was by their mom when they were about 3, they have really been good kids for the most part. As they hit their teen years, it's been more testing the boundaries and seeing what they can get away with, so the confrontations are strictly verbal. Taking cell phone and internet access away, is a huge incentive for solid behavior.

I never, ever, had to hit my kids, or give them those stupid "time outs" all I had to do was remind them what they were doing was wrong, and they understood, thats what real parents do. If you want to spank your kids and it works for you then by all means spank your kids, but please keep them away from my kids, kids that are hit will most definately wind up hitting other kids and their own kids in the future, and just so you know, my kids grew up to be great adults, and Ill repeat it, without ever being spanked.

I was spanked a lot as a kid, I think it made me a better behaved kid. It definitely makes sense until you get to the point where grounding starts to replace it (7-9 yo). Esp with younger kids it is more physiological than physical

So was I, thats why I didnt spank my kids.
but I truly think it makes for one scared kid, respect has nothing to do with it, I think they are only well behaved because they fear thier parents, I see it ever day, a parent turns to a kid to point something out and the kid closes his/her eyes and puts up their hands thinking they are going to get whacked! thats some f'ked up **** right there! Then the parents always say,"Oh my god! you act as if I beat you!" Well no ****! what do you think a spanking is!? anyways, Nothing worse than being scared of your own parents.

Discipline is an absolute necessity, whether spanking or another method. I don't trust that Kate's spank while walking method really does the trick, but I don't have a problem with spanking generally.

Here's why corporal punishment doesn't work: it doesn't make kids obey, it makes them find ways to NOT get caught. I was spanked/beaten when I was a kid (because in other countries, what passes for spanking would be called beating here), and it did. not. work. I just became craftier at avoiding said punishment.

Ditto, as I mentioned I was spanked/beaten when I did things that were considered "bad/wrong" and I did the same as Nek, thats why I chose to talk instead of spank, and as I mentioned, it worked out great!

There's a marked difference between BEATING and spanking. If you were BEAT ON by your parents, you were abused. If you got a swat or spanking, you were parented.

If you hit anyone or anything in a fit of rage, I agree you are not getting your intended result and are more just venting your own frustration, for your own relief, not disciplining your kid. Then again, if you let things get to the point of a fit of rage on your part, you've failed at some point along the way in your parenting.

Ask the kid getting abused, I mean 'parented'....... I bet his answer will be different than yours.

For those who think CP doesn't work, only because you think it didn't work on you, then it wasn't done correctly by your parents. It has to have balance. Rewards for good behavior have to be giving out in equal, or better yet, greater measure. We systematically have taken corporal punishment out of schools, and schools have systematically gotten out of hand.

Here is one principal that reinstituted it, and turned things around in his school. And it works because he uses a balance of punishment and rewards.
