The river valley (area of the city) is actually pretty flat. I live on one of the highest points in Allegheny County (county were Pittsburgh is located. . . Used to live a pit higher until I moved.

We still have water towers. There is one just a few miles from my home. Most folks around here live on hills. You still need to get the water to them.

Funny I had a warmshowers host that got off on water towers. He said it meant community pride. Go figure.

Yeah, it was so different in watching reruns, years later, of certain 60's shows in color.
Never thought about it, did the film in color? Makes sense.

Yeah, I think it was supposed to be train water.

Some people would pay big money for that.

Actually the water tower was just used to supply water for the locomotive.

1874 Milwaukee original tower.
It was actually am open standpipe to absorb the pump pulses from the triple expansion steam pumps.
In the 80's there was a temporary art installation dragon on it.

Having resurrected this thread, I guess a contribution is in order. This now a landmark clock tower in Chelsea, MI, a frequent destination for some of my rides. It started life as a water tower for a cast iron stove maker years ago.

..and, as an added bonus, the Detroit to Chicago Amtrak was caught in the photo.

I used to paint them. Not as a vandalism prank but for a living. All styles inside and out. From all over Oklahoma through East Texas all the way down to Zapata Texas on the Mexican border. Wasps like to nest in the ventilation covers on top of them and would too often sting you and chase you all the 90 ft way down the ladder after you rigged your skyclimber. That would have been their dying act as they don't survive being sandblasted.

Now you have to watch for all the RF from the cell antennas

I used to live near this one. Do you think the aluminum clouds make it look better?

Twin Bridges, MT along the Beaverhead River while out on tour. Somewhere I have a better photo from another visit.

Last week I organized a watertower chase contest for myself, which I also participated .

I did a 37km roundtrip with my bicycle and I found the tower first 😎.

Don't need to explain all the preparation, planning, research and exploration that came along with this major event in my life.

These ones are shot in a town called 'Silly', in Belgium.
