I now have a job at VWR Education as a machine/forklift operator. I start on Wednesday pending results from a drug screening on Monday.

The only thing they are going to find in that drug test is bananas and awesome.

CONGRATS on the new gig -- IIRC, those jobs pay decently! Better than what I'm pulling down, anyway.

You GO with yo bad self!

Congratulations. Too bad that taking drug tests is a poor career path. Sounds like you've got a talent for that.

I used to operate a forklift.

Lesson one: Make sure the forks aren't too high.
I tried going through (what I thought) was a real tall door. Come to find out, it wasn't as tall as I thought.

Have fun. And do make car noises passing people. And some spaceship noises like on the Jetsons as well.

-Remember, forklifts do not drive like cars.
-Management frowns on decorating the equipment w/bumper stickers
-Propane is better than battery.
-Small cars are easy to hide in a big warehouse. Boss' Festiva was 'relocated' once.
-Clamp trucks are hella fun. Replace the fork blades with a giant clamp. Then chase the office staff as they do their power walks on their lunch hour in your area.

ETA:
-If what you're using is battery powered, and you are the one having to change out the battery (should be 2 person job), watch your toes!! Had a coworker attempt to change out once, the cart moved, and he dropped the battery on his foot. He lost some toes over that one.

I drove a Toyota like that once. POS battery wouldn't hold a charge. Not fun trying to move a dead lift that is bigger than anything in facility.

RACE CAR NOISES-some of my favorites. Indy, Formula 1, Nascar, drags, what kind do you make? Sometimes I make big rig sounds when I'm climbing and changing gears.

I ran one too for awhile. Had the forks up too high and impaled a skid of canned catfood. I backed out and put it away and got another one. In a few days it smelled like someone died in that aisle.

All of the machines they have are yellow Landoll Bendis.

Which are old, from the looks of it.

They don't change batteries, either. They have 12 machines and plenty of Exide charging stations for all of them.

Make sure the plows have done their job before attempting to drive a forklift outside.
