Most likely, I'll be lost somewhere in NYC tomorrow

Last minute plans. I'm flying to NYC tomorrow to visit sister for the holiday. She gave me these directions from JFK to Manhattan. She says it should be easy, but I've never done this. It should be quite an adventure. I almost hope that I do get lost.

When you get off the plane:
Go to Baggage Claim
Look for signs for the Air Train
Take the one towards Jamaica Station
When you get to Jamica Station buy a metro-card with at least $8 on it ($5 for the air train $2.25 for the subway)
Follow the signs to the Subway
You want to get on the E train towards Manhattan (it's a blue circle)
Get off at QueensPlaza
Look at the signs, you want to switch to the R train (yellow circle) towards Manhattan
Get off at 59th st/Lexington Ave (its the first stop in Manhattan)
You want to walk East and North to 62nd and 1st ave.

Be very careful when you get there. Fresh faced country boys can be led astray by the wily big city folk.

City folk aren't actually all that wily. I mean, they do live in the city. How wily does that make most of them?

if you get lost, give uncle pcad a call and he'll pick you up. you know how friendly and welcoming city folk are.

make sure you keep a hand on your wallet though.

just fyi, the Air train was FUBAR today (snowed all day yesterday and there is a good 6-10" to walk through today); hopefully it should be better by tomorrow...

that's an easy trip - Just make sure you're heading west towards Manhattan and you're good to go.

the E makes some local stops and then is an express from Roosevelt Ave. to Queens Plaza, so heads up once you hit that stop. At Queens Plaza, you just get off the E and walk about 15 feet across the platform to catch the R, no biggie.

Yep. It was pretty easy. I spent the day walking around central park. I have a morning free tomorrow. What should I do? I think I'm going to Rockefeller Center.

Can you find it? It's centrally located, much like the Park you toured today, only 10 blocks farther south.

If you can't find your way around Midtown Manhattan, maybe you can become a NYC cab driver.

Funny, midnight cowboy was my first thought when you said that.

You can't be serious. There are enough attractions in NYC that no tourist should ever run out of places to visit. For starters, there are tons of museums on fifth ave. Rock Center is overrated. If you want to skate, the rinks in central park are lot better. What do you want to do?

I've lived around NYC my whole life, and went to college there. And I've never been up to the top of the Empire State Building. A client of mine had offices there, I was up to the 54th floor many times. But the line to go to the Observation Deck was always too long.

That is quite a long trip. I hope you're not doing it at night; trains run much slower then.

Enjoy your time here. Maybe us New Yorkers can arrange a meetup?

Same here; born and raised for 11, and even though I actually have the resources and time to go now, I have not yet gone. It'd imagine it's kind of a tourist trap, especially considering that my trip to the Statue of Liberty was supremely anti-climatic.

Carry a goat shaped beacon and light it if you are in doubt. Pgoat will be there in his leggings to save the day.

go to the met.

don't be fooled by the suggested admission prices.

pay a quarter, and you'll have access to one of, if not THE, best museums in the world.
