Huh, I should probably fill out the Census this time.

In 2000, I filled it out too late, and they refused to take it (seriously). In 2010, I was nowhere to be found. So, I haven't been counted since 1990 (assuming my parents filled it out, which they probably did).

Note, I googled, and my son that is at home because college shut down because of the coronas, is NOT supposed to be reported on the census form.

Hmmm. If he's not at college, will his census mail be forwarded to your home? He's gotta be counted somewhere, I'd probably fudge that census and put him down as living at home if he was my son. I'm not giving advice, just thinking out loud here.

My youngest in college lives here at home and drives to school each day. I mean, she used to drive to school each day. Now her classes are all online.

I've been afraid to open my census form. I don't know what flavor of ancestry I have.

Is there a category called "Poor White Trash"?

Anyhoo I just did my census and got it out of the way. I'm pretty optimistic that A) I'll be alive and in the same old place on 1 April and B) my wife won't have run off with the UPS guy.

Under race I used "Other" and said I used to but haven't in about 15 years.

I shoulda linked before, here are the census.gov guidelines:

https://www.census.gov/newsroom/pres...-students.html

College students living in on-campus housing are counted through their university as part of our Group Quarters Operation, which counts all students living in university owned housing. In addition to college dormitories, the Group Quarters Operation also includes places like nursing homes, group homes, halfway houses and prisons.

...
  • In general, students in colleges and universities temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 virus will still be counted as part of this process. Even if they are home on census day, April 1, they should be counted according to the residence criteria which states they should be counted where they live and sleep most of the time. We are asking schools to contact their students and remind them to respond.
  • Per the Census Bureauís residence criteria, in most cases students living away from home at school should be counted at school, even if they are temporarily elsewhere due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The census mailings went out before the current round of closures, you should have the mailing by now and if you cannot access it you might try the official site for help.

If you are still here at the time when the census workers start to go to homes then I suppose it can be dealt with there. If they do not live on campus then the forms were mailed to their mailing address.
