Castle Point - New Zealand

Ask me the furthest out of my way I've ever traveled to see one location - this probably has to be it. Not only did I fly half way around the world just to get to the island, but then I detoured well out of the way of what few roads New Zealand has to spend an evening and morning shooting here. It was, as they say, not to be missed. This is the latest edit of many from that short visit that I have edited, this one initially passed over, but lately brought back from the archives for a chance to shine.

Side note - just signed up for Mark Metternich's March 2020 Fine Art Print Making workshop, hoping by the time I take it, I'll be taking photos worthy of the print quality I'll be able to produce!

Thanks Clemsongirl - the Falklanders we met and the history of the islands were as interesting as the wildlife.

Redheads are usually way out on Lake Ontario so it was good to see this one close in yesterday. I took a few shots while I waited for it to pop its head up, and now I think I prefer the shot with its head tucked in.

Very nice pics. I use to carve decoys out of sugar pine many years ago. Redheads were one of my faves to try.

I wanted to respond to a "shadows" challenge in another forum. I planned to walk down to the cemetery this morning to take advantage of the low sun, but the car needed to be driven after a battery boost so it turned into a driving trip.

_IMG9487 by Steve, on Flickr

I must have walked/ridden my bike past this monument a few hundred times, but I didn't notice the weird hand holding the inscription "scroll" until I opened up this pic.

This was the best I could do for a shadow shot.

Your reference to 'time' made me think of an app I use called TPE. Available in the Google Play Store for Android. Very handy for planning a photo op. Don't know about an Apple version.

Thanks bobwysiwyg -if you are referring to my shots - I'm not really enough of a first/last light "landscape" photographer or gear geek to go for that kind of the stuff. It seemed like a bright, crisp morning so I decided to go for it, though by the time I got there it was a bit too hazy to get really dense shadowing - the latitude/angle of the sun might have something to do with it as well.
