It's been one of those days

I had to go to Petersburg WV today for work - it's @175 miles away, so after staying up late to catch the 11 p.m. Pro-Cycling Challenge coverage, I was up & on the road at 5:30 a.m. this morning. All was well, just driving along through the fog, the the sunrise, and 12 miles from my destination, the front end starts making a funny noise, the little tire pressure warning (!) goes on - I slow down, thinking maybe I can make it into Petersburg, and of course, NOT. Front left tire blew. Pulled over, got my little car book out, got my little donut tire out, (needed the book to get the damn jack out!) and set about taking the tire off, etc. Could not call where I was supposed to be at 9:30 because I'm in the middle of nowhere between Seneca Rock & Petersburg (a lovely place to stop - if you WANT to!) Could not budge the lug nuts. At all. One good thing about those WV hill-billies is that they always stop & help. So, got my tire changed out, got directions to a tire place. Drove the next 10 miles slowly, and get to the tire place. All they have are winter tires in Honda's Fit's weird size, and I find out that now that I'm in a cell service area, ALL the phones - cell & land line, are out. So, I figure, get both front tires changed (thinking that the one that didn't blow was the same age as the one that did, and if I didn't change it, it would probably blow on the way home - hey, I WAS planning on getting a new set of 4 tomorrow anyway), and a new inspection sticker to boot, and $250 later, I'm back on my way to work.

Get to work - only an hour late! - download my data, and... the internet joins the cell & land line service in being non-functional. I saw a few students, collected some paperwork, left some directions, made an appointment in September to return, and started home.

Tires are making funny noises that I eventually decide are those little rubber hairy things wearing off, because the noise disappeared after 30 miles. The TPS light comes back on after 70 miles, so I pull into a Sheetz to see if the rear tires are being wonky or if the tire place overinflated the new front tires. Had to wait to get near the air machine, and by that time the little light went off. So, good. Except by this time, it's school bus time on WV RT 33

So now I'm planning to just leave the new winter tires on the front until spring, and get new back tires when they start to leak, or go bald, or go flat - whichever comes 1st!

I think your husband should load the new tires into the washing machine and see what happens.

He seems strangely content to leave them on the car - I was expecting him to tell me to get 4 new ones now, and put the new snow tires back on in November! Maybe the sun got to him today....

As for burritos... I don't like burritos. I know, I know. We had leftover linguini & salad straight from the garden. And beer. I'm still having beer, actually.
