I remember when you could buy nickel choclate bars ans jawbreakers were three for a penny. Does that make me old or ancient?

I remember the old McDonalds ad that showed a family of four eating for under $5. That was sometime in the 70's. Still bugs me today when my wife and I order a couple of meals for well over $15.

I also remember the little plastic forks you used to get a A&W with your fries. Today you have to use your fingers to pick up the ketchupy fries.

Cokes (Nehi and others) moved from the old fashon box cooler to those new hangled self service machines. Put a nickel in, push the chrome handle, and the drink would slide out.

My ex and I were born 3 months apart, but we swear we were born in different decades because she lived in Oklahoma and I lived in Florida. I had McDs at age 4, she didn't eat at one till she was 16. Because she had older sisters and I was the oldest, her musical references were from the '50s and mine didn't start till the '60s. The architecture of her town was from the 30's and the architecture of mine was from the Space Age.

My dad always used to win this one...

He would catch a tram into town, watch a newsreel followed by cartoons and a feature film, enjoy eating a packet of 'milk duds' (chocolate buttons?) during the films, occasionally have a malted milk afterwards if he was feeling particularly fancy, then ride the tram home.

All for sixpence - and he had halfpenny change.

(was the mid-late 1940s though)

this needs to be merged with the other 'old' thread currently running. I'm too old to be running back and forth between the two.

I still have my Post slide rule. Calculators were around $400.00 in 1972 dollars. That's $2,060.00 in current dollars. Now you kiddies can buy one in the 99 cent store.

Did not get a car until moving to Miami in 1999, first fill up was $1.05 a gallon, UK back then was around $5 a gallon.

I remember $.25 gas. Typewriters. Cut and paste involved scissors and tape.

My Dad used to ride his bike from town to town during WWII to visit the young ladies (when he couldn't get gas due to rationing).

- ...I could fill up my motorcycle and buy a pack of cigarettes for just under a dollar, and then I could sell the cigarettes to a freshman when I got to school to get my dollar back.

- ...I could "convince" the agro teacher (who moonlighted at a liquer store a night) to sell me a bottle of gin, so that I could "build" a gin melon to sell to the party crowd on Friday night, so I could pay my race entry fees on Sunday morning.

- ...I could count on one hand the number of adult that I knew who rode bicycles.......
