XM Suddenly Works! Promotion I Don't Know About?

This might be unanswerable, but if anyone has any idea...

Why does the XM radio in my car suddenly work? I have had my car for a year now (bought used), and I would randomly try the XM stations and it wouldn't work since I didn't have a subscription.

Well, over the weekend I accidentally tried an XM station, and it works! So, I have been "channel-surfing" through all 170-some stations all weekend while driving in my car.

But:
--We have not signed up for any subscriptions, trial or otherwise
--I Googled all morning, and I can't find any Labor Day free promotions or anything similar
--Could it be an error on their end and I get the benefits? (This happened with cable TV to us in 2006 and it was never fixed until we felt guilty enough to call the cable company a year later)

Anyone have any other ideas, or had it happen to you, too?

P.S. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy every minute of it, and I might not call them if I sense it might be a mistake (unlike the cable company).

Sirius/XM is doing a promo through Sept 12.

BTW, your googling skills need work and it never hurts to check the company website.

Yeah there's some kind of promotion giving you access to all XM stations. I heard about it on the way to the beach.

I have a friend, and the same thing happened about a month ago. His XM just works now, and hasn't stopped yet.

He said,"I ain't calling them". I don't blame him either.

Enjoy it while you can. Our quit working late July, and they couldn't figure out why or what to do to make it work again. I bet they'll let you know how to resume service when the promotion's over.

Most embarrassing thread ever. I'd rather be banned for posting naked pictures of myself all over the place (not going to test it, though).

Although I got 3 months free Sirius/XM with my new truck. It is now 6 months later and they never turned it off. I never registered with them either.

IMHO Satellite radio is doom to fail, Pandora-ish services over 4G will kill it. Even more so now that we don't have a shuttle *and* the Russians chickened out.

It's 100% gonna fail once Stern retires. I'm sure they now that though.

I don't blame him either. But does it still work now that the promotion is over? It is also possible that someone who started a new subscription accidentally entered the wrong unit ID...

I should ask him... I'll post when I find out.

Funny this thread is still around. For the curious, I signed up for it and told them I know of a promo of $20 for 5 months. Well, I ended up getting through April for $20 (plus taxes, so about $25, or $3.57 a month). I can't complain about that! Except now I obsess over listening to as many stations as I can given I am paying for it, and it's pretty overwhelming. Oh, and stupid trees along my way are thick enough to block the signal sometimes.
