The silence is deafening.

Sadly, the words can be googled in seconds... so even the uninitiated can be "enlightened."

Still a pretty popular song. My kids are aware of it, not sure they would make the connection with those lyrics not from the chorus though.

8-10 years ago, some modern rock band (staind, disturbed, something like that) did a cover of it that my wife likes. I don't like hearing it as a modern rock song, but to each their own, I suppose. To me, it's just one of those songs that is just so iconic in the original format, there's no point in covering it. If you sound the same, why bother, and, if you change it, you ruin part of what made is special. It's like trying to cover Aretha, Tina Turner, or Whitney Houston. On the other hand, anybody that wants to cover Bob Dylan or Joni Mitchell is free to have at it in my opinion. I love their words, but not so much their singing.

They did not embarrass themselves. It's decent.

It sounded familiar, but I couldn't place it.
Then I googled it, and...Doh!

Probably because the Dolby Noise Reduction button wasn't pushed.

I spent a lot of time in my moody 7-9th grade period listening to my parents' record of the original while sitting in the dark. I was one of "those" kids. The hissing and the popping of the record just adds something that my cd and mp3 copies today lack.
