Article says they're going to start selling the original Bronco bodies, too. Oh, yeah.

Rather have a Sixties XKE body.

Makes the Stang look ugly by way of comparison.

This strikes a chord with me because I read a great editorial back in the '70s about the auto industry and the best means of manufacturing products while saving resources. The gist of the author's solution was to maintain cars that already exist, and turn the major automakers into a vast aftermarket parts resource.

So Ford as an example would build and stock every part needed to perfectly maintain a few models, say, the Mustang, Crown Victoria and Ford F150, in perpetuity. Components would be improved on an ongoing basis, always back-compatible. Other manufacturers would adhere to a similar plan, servicing their popular models. Even complete new bodies and running gear could be sold through the existing dealership network.

Third-party manufacturers would of course be free to enter this arena as well, given that they would comply with licensing agreements with OEMs.

It's astonishing to me how prescient the writer of the editorial truly was.

Trunk and back seat. They are about useless anyway, and you might end up with decent weight distribution.

Nope.

That's 15K for an unfinished unpainted shell.

You can get a new car for about that.

Taking a shell outsider a factory and turning it into a car (assuming it's not DIY)
is a very expensive proposition.

They are doing this because the people want old Mustangs and are willing to pay insane amounts of money.

I'm already envisioning a couple of dozen other car shells I'd like to see remade by various companies. Or better yet, the entire car.

I'm glad my mother doesn't have a computer. She had a 1965 Mustang when she was younger and misses it dearly. She traded it in on a VW Beetle.

If she found out about this, she'd beg, borrow, and steal to get one.

I like the entire car idea.

It's like the situation with the Cobra replicars.

The Cobra was astonishing back in the day. But most of the replicars
are not impressive.

And for the same amount of money you can get something like an RX8, which is
fun, reliable and handles well (a lot of replicars have crappy handling).
