Does anyone fly at a decent hour?

We're leaving for vacation tomorrow at 4:00 A. gosh darned M., and that was the "best" departure time we could get. Somebody besides Santa has got to take off at a decent hour, who here flies without leaving in the middle of the nigh?

I do. I won't fly before 10 unless absolutely necessary. Up until about 3 months ago, I flew roughly 10 times a month.

The airport here prohibits flight departures between 11:30 pm and 6:30 am. I always try to get the earliest flight out. If there are delays, the early flights generally get to leave while those scheduled for later in the day get cancelled.

HTFU. Sheesh. Flight times in the middle of the country (i.e. where you are) tend to be better than you'll find elsewhere.

Anyone on the west coast has to get up pretty early to make it to anywhere on the east coast by the time you allow for both the time difference and flight time.

Redeye flights are the way to go. You'll find open roads, way faster security, the airport is not overwhelmed with passengers, and you arrive at a better time at your destination. Plus people will be nicer to you at the airport and there is more time for Plan B if the airlines eff up Plan A.

In the last month I've dropped my wife off at the airport for approx 5am flights twice. Then went to work for a full day at the office. That's love.

Also, I grew up flying space-available with my family when we went anywhere (dad was a pilot for Southwest Airlines). And we usually left the day after school got out for the summer/thanksgiving/x-mas/etc. So the first day of my vacation was often spent getting up @ 3:30am, to arrive at the airport by 5:30am, for a 7am flight.

Last time I flew red eye, we waited for about 5 hours for the flight to take off. Staycations are looking better and better.

That's happened to me and it's another reason to take the redeye. Your chances of arriving at your final destination are way higher if your original flight takes off at midnight as opposed to late morning or sometime in the afternoon.
