Happy Valley to be filled in?

So, will Penn State get the death penalty from the NCAA? I think if ever it was deserved, this is that time. SMU just paid some players.

Seriously, allowing child molestation to go unreported?

The whole athletic department should be shut down.

IBTM.

I think they will pretty much dismantle the program and rebuild afresh.
Get rid of JoePa and the rest of the staff that was involved, or knew, let players transfer without penalty if they wish, hire a new coach and have him rehire an entirely new staff.
Rebuild from top down and from the bottom up.

There is no excuse for what happened. This isn't like some NCAA violation. This was the cover up of a heinous crime.

Joe Pa always looked/acted like a no-nonsense modest person on the rare occasions I've met him/heard him talk during my time in Happy Valley. If he really knew the full extent of what was going on and helped cover it up it would be a huge credibility hit. For some reason, there is no report on how much of it he was told by the said graduate assistant. On the other hand, reading from the reports Curley and Schultz were told all the details and did not report it to the police. It is quite embarrassing to see my alma mater in such disgrace. There was a very very sick person and kids that were in need of help and no one did a single thing. I fear for the future of my kids

The assistant coach, if convicted, should not spend time in anything but a real prison.

The university staff who covered all of this up should be let go immediately and charged with their own crimes even if the assistant is not found guilty.

This isn't about football, folks. This is about doing the right thing.

By the way, P&R (aka "controversial topics") is in this thread's future.

Have you read the Grand Jury report? The coaching assistant is quite firm in saying he observed anal sex. It does not appear that anyone else used that language, Paterno included, at least not the way the report is written. In fact, it appears to me that everyone from Paterno up, dumbed down and softened the nature of these horrid crimes. This was the most damning evidence I read in that report. Only 23 pages, so not a long read.

No I haven't in all honesty, but I've read that the then graduate assistant reported Sandusky having anal sex with a child. What seems strange to me is that there are reports that when the graduate assistant (Mike whomever, current receivers coach) talked to Curley and Schultz, he explicitly told them of this fact, but nothing mentioned on how much of it he told to Paterno (it's quite possible that I may have missed as I couldn't/didn't read everything regarding the case). In all honesty, it is quite probable that Paterno may have known the full extent when he went and talked to Curley and Schultz the day after he was told of the acts. What I read from his reported statement is:

As my grand jury testimony stated, I was informed in 2002 by an assistant coach that he had witnessed an incident in the shower of our locker room facility. It was obvious that the witness was distraught over what he saw, but he at no time related to me the very specific actions contained in the Grand Jury report. Regardless, it was clear that the witness saw something inappropriate involving Mr. Sandusky.
I cannot understand why the graduate assistant would tell everything to Curley and Schultz but not to Paterno. That's the part I find very strange.

It seems like a high school phys ed teacher (after Sandusky was barred from campus), a couple of janitors have seen Sandusky during these acts and not one person has acted on it. Very sad.

Actually the mascot is still pronounced the same way, just the spelling will be changed. Nittany Lyings.

One other change will occur to the logos on coaches uniforms. Penn and State will be reversed. Most of the coaches apparrel will read State Penn.

The PSU administration took all their cues from the Catholic Church and the Red Sox scandels. How to do the wrong thing. The whole thing is sickening.

Paterno fired....University President fired.......Sandusky locked away, hopefully for good. I feel so bad for the kids who were subjected to this sick behavior, there wouldn't have been so many if these "men" would have been man enough to speak out.

And it gets worse. Breaking news today has Second Mile being investigated for pimping out young boys to rich donors.

The reporter went on to say, this is just rumor, not fact yet, that PSU agreed to cover up the case if Sandusky retired in 1999. Also rumors that Sandusky's foundatioin, Second Mile, was used as a slush fund to pay players at PSU.

A former recent PSU player was interviewed today and stated that PSU players were encouraged to serve at Second Mile as volunteers, even though it is proven in 1999 that PSU staff and administration knew of sexual abuse of kids by Sandusky.

This is going to go much deeper than anyone thought.

I feel so bad for the poor kids that were used by these monsters.

After hearing the way Paterno bad mouthed my school to recruits.... I could care less that he was let go.

People making him out to be a victim here is ridiculous. Maybe he's just collateral damage, but certainly not the victim here.

On the plus side, I won't have to watch him sob through another interview after a crappy season.
