Here's my suggestion.
[1] Put off any maintenance on your home or any renovations/improvements etc. These cost huge amounts of money because of the high cost of labor. Obviously you must do essential maintenance, but a good example would be painting the inside of your home when a simple washing of the walls would do.
[2] Put off replacing your car. another massive expense just to have the latest thing. Get an old vehicle. Also if you get a pickup that's higher off the ground you can get underneath and do maintenance yourself. Additional savings.

This lady could offer several tips. Peripheral cycling content: she appears to be using a bicycle water bottle in the first picture here.

For Breakfast only cold oatmeal. No need ot heat it.

Save soap slivers from when hte bar is almost done.

Use only the free clinic, even when your sone has broken their leg in a accident. Who cares if the delay may cause them to lose it.

Can anyone name the real person who did all these things?

That lady does not sound pleasant. Sure it's nice to have all that money, but living a life so unpleasant to get it doesn't sound worth it to me.

It was not a question of 'economizing' but substituting for stuff that we could not get. Everything was rationed and rationing stamps needed, which did not mean it was actually available.
Here's a few examples:
No coffee. Roasted and handground acorns. Bittter but doable.
No shoes. Resorted to the old Dutch wooden shoes.
No toothpaste or brushes. Used salt and used our forefinger to rub salt over our teeth.
No heat/coal to warm house: more blankets and wore clothes to bed. Our chamber pot (anyone remember those or ever use one?) under the bed would actually freeze solid overnight.
Absolutley no toilet paper anywhere, so we used pieces of newspaper.
Old/worn knitted sweaters/sox were unraveled and mom would use that yarn to knit sox or sweaters.
Gloves in winter were made from furred annimal skins.
Trapped and ate sparrows (yeah that was meat!) as there usually was no meat available.
Springtime we would find bird nests and steal the eggs. Punch small hole in egg and suck up the innards.
Some big city folks actually trapped and ate rats. Fortunately living outside of the big city we never resorted to that.
Owning a radio: death penalty or concentration camp.
Oh, forget about the bombing raids, arrests/slave labor by the Nazis.
Yes, dad and 2 older sisters ended up forced labor in Germany.
So you think these are tough times? Get real!
Let's face it, we are spoiled rotten here compared to 90% of the rest of the world!
Rudy
Wow.
