Why didn't they race yesterday? Don't windshield wipers work at 200mph?

you have something like 750hp in a 2t RWD car that has no TCS, ABS, AYC or any modern computer control systems to speak of. heck, those things must use carburetors too.

Officially, it's in the best interest of driver safety. Unofficially? The rain obscures the sponsors logos, robbing them of free air time and the rain could degrade the signals from the dash cams that they stream to premium content subscribers.

Not to mention that the last time I saw a NASCAR race*, the cars didn't even have functioning headlights.

*Haven't watched any network broadcast TV since the switch to Digital TV. <--Dumbest idea evar.

I was just at the Toyota dealer getting an oil change and this was on the TV.....what a BORE!!!!! I guess many would say the same about the Tour e France. One thing was kind of funny, a car came in for pit service, the crew didn't get nuts on one of the front wheels, which came off as he pulled out of the pit. Then a car coming into the pit slammed into the car without the wheel....Haaaaaaahaaa! Over all, I'm NOT a fan.

that was pretty interesting... although I would think that Purple Power would be more effective than Tide at cleaning up the roadway.

So the reason he has the track all to himself is because all the other racers decided it was crazy to race under these conditions? That's why they are indoors watching him on monitors.

Superbikes are beautiful. He's handling bobbles that would take down most riders in an instant.

That particular clip was of qualifying. They do race in wet.

I went to bed before the Columbian taxicab driver blew up the jet-dryer.

Yes, the cars are using fuel injection this year.

Because I was flipping between the 500 and another stupid show, I missed the reason for the dryer to be out.
Why was the dryer on the track?

Most likely blowing debris off from a wreck.

The rain slows them down, but not by as much as you'd think.

Formula 1 races in the rain, and they don't have headlights on those cars. The only light is a single tail light.

Although the rain might make it harder to read the ads, it would make the races last even longer, which would lead to even more air time?

Perhaps the real reason is that NASCAR doesn't want the expense of bringing intermediates and "full wets" to every race? In F1 there is a time limit on races, but with NASCAR I assume they always try to go the full distance, which would take even longer in the rain. That would be a lot of extra rubber to bring to the track.

I have tried to watch NASCAR, but it seems like its too much about waiting for the next crash. You get the feeling that the pace car leads more laps than any one driver.
