Have you ever Googled or Binged yourself?

Not talking about using one of those background check services, but just plain typed your name into the search field and hit enter. Apparently, I have a very common name in real life. Saw quite a few attorneys, couple of educators, a Dr., musician, actor, and a photographer. So fully half of the social media profiles weren't mine.

For shins and grins, I also plugged Tom's name into the field. He's everywhere and also looks like it's all related to him- as in he is currently the only person on the interwebz that is using that name.

I share a name with a very famous sports personality. Google reveals nothing about me.

Anyone who is job hunting should do it.

Of course there may be a surprise. My first rank on my name on google my book that just got published. The third rank is my obituary.

The Internets know where I lived for a few years after college. It knows where I live now. Not much else.

Mine's a "D list" actor.

If you have enough details to actually find ME, you will get zero results. My IP address probably has more info than anything.

Anybody got tips on removing your address from realty websites?

Holy crap! I just did, and my late Uncle, my dad's brother, that I was named after popped up! Brrrr give me goose bumps. He was a Seaman, Second Class, WWII. I knew he was in the Navy and was lost when his ship was sunk by the Japanese, but this is the first time I saw his name in "print" that I can remember.

FWIW my dad was a survivor of the Bataan Death March, spending 42 months in Japanese prison camps. And as long as I can remember, he never held it against the Japanese people. I guess I'll never know if he realized the bike he bought me was Canadian / Japanese, but I know it would not have influenced his decision.

Oddly enough, I decided to do a search based upon my BF ID. Bing yielded much more accurate results than Google did. Also found out I'm rather active on sites that I didn't even know existed...

I directed "Get Carter", not the cool Micheal Cain one, the rubbish Sylvester Stalone one.

It's not my best work, but then to be fair I'm a software tester so what do I know about directing films?

There's a collegiate javelin record holder with my name who matches my physical description and is only a few years older than me, and she made the records while attending the University in my hometown. Pretty much unless I go on a multi-State murder spree I'm never gonna be the first result in google.

I have said it before...There are thousands of facebook pages dedicated to discussing my death. It's starting to die down now, I just tried again and google only shows "about 152,000" results.

There is also a restaurant not too far away from that bears my name. I get "tagged" there often.

The big change I've noticed lately is that the geneological information on the web is getting better. While I can no longer find a picture of the house where my grandmother grew up (the oldest western style building in Japan), I've been able to find better information on the life and times of my great-great-great-grandfather, enough to discover his position on slavery (against it) and more about his daughter's marriage to one of those Houston brothers.
