as much fun as having a tooth pulled

I'll be finding out later today. Anyone with tips on recovery? It's just 1 back molar #2 top right and I'm getting just local anesthesia. Daughter is getting the full deal next week 4 wisdom extraction with general anesthesia.

any tooth pulling jokes out there. can use a little levity ...

I had my lower two wisdoms removed a few years ago. Not fun, the oral surgeon I went to would only use local, well mine were so impacted I was in the chair for about 4 hours and the Dr. told me at the end he had to cut them into about 6 pieces to get them out. I was given a pain killer for about 7 days, but only took them for 2 or 3. My main problem was with bleeding, I had them done early in the morning and they bleed all day. They stopped bleeding while I was a sleep that night. I guess the pain is dependent on the individual. Some people I know have suffered a lot more pain others have said they experienced almost no pain.

I just had one pulled a few weeks ago. It was fine! I just had local too and didn't feel anything.

The recovery was weird, no pain meds needed at all. Bled only a little. It's fully healed now.

One day, a man walks into a dentist’s office and asks how much it will cost to extract wisdom teeth.
“Eighty dollars,” the dentist says.
“That’s a ridiculous amount,” the man says. “Isn’t there a cheaper way?”
“Well,” the dentist says, “if you don’t use an anesthetic, I can knock the price down to $60.”
“That’s still too expensive,” the man says.
“Okay,” says the dentist. “If I save on anesthesia and simply rip the teeth out with a pair of pliers, I can knock the price down to $20.”
“Nope,” moans the man, “it’s still too much.”
“Well,” says the dentist, scratching his head, “if I let one of my students do it, I suppose I can knock the price down to $10.”
“Marvelous,” says the man, “book my wife for next Tuesday!”

I had 8 wisdom teeth. I could not have a simple extraction. When I went in to the dentist's at Fort Bragg, he sent me to the hospital. At that time, every person working the dental care in the hospital was brought in to see the x-rays of the 8 wisdom teeth. Of course, they would look at the x-ray, and then look at me, like I was a circus freak. They made jokes, and the dentist took an extra x-ray (for instructional purposes). Then he went to work extracting the impacted wisdom teeth surgically. I apparently flirted relentlessly with the French nurse on duty.

I was sent back to the barracks with a profile and tylenol 3.

During my recovery, we had a urinalysis. So, we had to stand in the hallway under the watchful eye of our commander and the officers. We took our turns delivering our urine. But due to the fact that I was hopped up on morphine, I decided in my drug addled haze to take the time to pick on the officers.

I did not remember this at all, and had to be convinced by my peers. But the officers in my company took it in stride.

A woman goes to the dentist. As he leans over to begin working on her, she grabs his balls.
The dentist says: "Madam, I believe you've got a hold of my privates."
The woman replies: "Yes. We're going to be careful not to hurt each other, aren't we?"

I had my four wisdom teeth taken out at the same time. I was expecting some of the really good, fully narcotic pain killers. No such luck. All I got was super strength Tylenol. And they did was to make me nauseous. And the f'n tooth fairy stiffed me too.

home now. I survived. it was weird. from what tell me it was an easy extraction. but for me at one point I thought it wasn't coming out and thought he was going to ask for a break, get a cigarette then come back for another try, or change his mind and say, nah, don't think it's coming out, and then there was a swoosh and he said: "ok take your headphones off we're done"

Novocaine is starting to wear off. who has stock in that? do they have the corner on that market? no physical exertion for a couple days, I guess that means no sex?

If you just had a tooth pulled and the thing you're really worried about is whether or not you're allowed to get laid, wow, I envy you.

My wife had her last tooth pulled cold, no anesthesia at all. She hates needles that much and figured after childbirth, how hard could it be. She came out fine!

My youngest had all four pulled (at the same visit) when she was like 15? 16? she was dopey for about an hour or two afterward, and when the meds wore off she was really hungry and ate a Philly Cheesesteak!

When I had mine pulled the oral surgeon gave me a prescription for vicodin and told me to eat a lot of oranges for the first week. The orange seemed to work better than the vicodin.

After a bike crash in a race, I essentially shattered all my teeeth in (I left my front teeth embedded in another cyclists CF handlebars as a result of a bad pace line crash), I had to have all my teeth extracted surgically. Yeah, I got the super-duper pain meds, since all my back teeth fractured below the gum line irrecoverably and had to be cut out.

I had four pulled for braces when I was about 15. They gave me a local and gas and all I remember was my head wagging and the crunch sound. Afterward it was a lot like this:

This is a completely logical and fair approach. It will afford the patient the ability to give the dentist some "discomfort".

I had to have two wisdom teeth extracted....the first one the dentist literally got on me...knee in chest, twisting and pulling for about 20 minutes before it came out. Had no problems other than my body was sore where he basically stomped on me. The second one seemed to come out soooo much easier....but the entire side of my face swelled up. Couldn't hardly see out of my eye on that side everything was so swollen. Lasted 3 freaking days.

All four at once here. I got to do what they call a hypnotic sedation. I was zoned out for quite a while. I remmber waking up and the doctor was hammering on a chisel. I moaned, heard someone say "He's awake." and a nurse walked over to my side and bam I was out again. The next time I awoke, I asked if he got one side done and he said he got them all. They walked me into a little room with a bench to lay upon and my grandfather said I slept for about 4 hours.

I don't think I did anything stupid to tell about. I did hurt for several days and took 3 days from work.

After that my quality of life has been better. I used to get food stuck down in there (mostly peanut chunks) and it made me miserable. I remember going for several months at a time with wisdom tooth pain. Once they were removed and began to heal it seemed odd to not have that pain anymore. I could feel there was not pain. I went from about 18 years to about 33 or 34 with all that pain.

Now, my wife, she had all four taken out at once and she went out drinking the same night. That was before she met me.

Had 4 teeth pulled when I was 14?ish from sides - per orthodontist orders - novocaine and manual extraction - one hit the wall. I have always hated dentists - started from a kid having fillings in molar - no novocaine - just put in a headlock. awesome.

Later at 18 yrs old - was put out for 4 wisdoms all at once- Yay!!! - never had a problem - was given some pain pills of some sort - never took them. I had beer and mashed potatoes.

But have had other work done since then and a good dentist is one to keep, let me tell you. Spent a Summer in a specialist's chair getting bridgework (and yes they shave down good teeth to use as anchors for bridge). I would love to have kept count on how many needle holes are in my mouth. Worst ones are getting them in the roof of your mouth. But - I am pain free and all my teeth are great - and that dam bridge (permanent fixed) that I had to get do to an accident years ago where an old boyfriend pushed me out a door and I did a face plant on a sidewalk ... is supposed to have a lifespan of 15 yrs, uh uhhhh - that's going to last a lifetime. I will not tell the tool they used to take out the first malfunctioning bridge.....

but in the end you will be glad it is done and over, believe me.
