on NOFX

Many British bands don't sing with an accent, like the P Furs these guys do.

New Zealander Gin Wigmore has a interesting voice, interesting look, and a good band with 3 drummers in this live clip. I love the matching retro red sparkle shells
Studio version

Another good girl-fronted band with her own style...no connection to JB, Beebs is her last name. They're from FL

Commercials getting more interesting

Just released during the Dallas/Green Bay NFL playoff game today, a new McDonalds ad campaign called Signs using Fun.'s Carry On as the background music was released. Also the Apple ad featuring Rollercoaster played right after it. There's a lot of negative press about McD's....like Wal-Mart they can do no good deed, since they force feed their swill to our youth. Just don't be hatin' on the bands, record sales are a fraction of the revenue artists used to be able to make from their songs. If we're going to have to endure commercials, it's nice to hear good music occasionally.

I'd never have heard of Royksopp except for that Geico caveman commercial.

And honestly, it was a surprise when this turned up for a car ad, Buick I think...?

I like that !! Here's another I've noticed, while using just the melody in the background this NFL Play60 spot uses Dust & Bones from NT of 1927

One more that's been running a while, I heard it again last night during "the big disappointment" Doesn't this band (The Orwells) sound like The Pixies?
Apple had a really good ad called The Song that will probably win some awards - here's the background I found interesting.

OK just a few more - Little did I know I was listening to Gin Wigmore before I knew it with her song "Kill of the Night" being used in both Nationwide and Johnny Walker Black ads:
Nationwide Insurance TV Commercial, 'Reveal' Song by Gin Wigmore - iSpot.tv

...and in yesterday games I heard Coors using J Roddy Walston:
Coors Light TV Commercial, 'Anthem' Song by J Roddy Walston & The Business - iSpot.tv

I posted a few Metallica and Ozzy covers from these guys in the Sunday 'Covers' thread (yep, heavy metal done in bluegrass style!), but this is one of their better original tunes. Good stuff:

I won't go back and find it but Grimes Genesis is the newest music I've noticed hitting commercial-dom just recently

Here's a brother/sister duo from New Zealand doing well here with a couple of songs getting airplay. A good story on them showing they're good people too: They were scheduled to play a free show in Wilmington NC back in the fall. They had left the town of their previous performance and headed to Wilmington. Not being from the US, they were well up I-95 before finding out they were headed to the wrong Wilmington. They turned around and back-tracked several hours in order to keep their obligation, getting there late with a crowd waiting, they came in and played an acoustic set

Bikes & Music with Broken Social Scene
Somewhere here or on YouTube I found that crazy NYC bike messenger race video that was set to music by Canadian indie group Broken Social Scene. There were lots of comments of people asking who did the music. Since Emily Haines has been in BSS (along with about of Canada) I thought I'd post a live version with Emily for MMM. Here's the messenger race video if you haven't seen it :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obZZPcjy4nY

more bike video and Emily on lead...I think she wrote Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl. Telling comment at the end "I miss my friends"

What wrong here folks? Monday's practically over and the 'left coaster' has the first 'Modern Music Monday' post?!?!?!? What kind of disorder we got going on here in this house? (Warren Zevon from 2003, that what!!!):

One more, the last track on his final album. R.I.P. mate . . . .
