Since we've left 2014 behind for 2015, here are two songs to celebrate those significant points of passing/departure/change in life. First is the well-known "Auld Lang Syne":

and here's the Scots/Irish tune "The Parting Glass":

FWIW: 'The Parting Glass' was the song used at the end of the movie 'Waking Ned Devine' on the bluff overlooking the ocean.

Cheers to all, and Happy New Year!

Whistling Songs

I thought I might need that Ariel Pink song from MMM to go along with Young Folks, but then I remembered this Drums song where the whistle is there from the start. Any other whistling songs out there?

I see both sides. I love the outdoors, but I would really miss the ***** tonks, dairy queens and 7-11's.

The most classicest one that comes to mind right away...

edit--holy censors, Batman! You can't say *car horn sound-y*, to go with tonk, but you know, red neck bar...

Here's some 'whistle while you work' music, especially when your work is "shootin hoops"

I'm running out of 2 for Tuesday ideas so I just jump on others good ones...thanks skidder Here's my favorite Psycho Furs song, complete with ghost. Good example of singing with an accent
I posted this on the Halloween music thread with a note about how similar this album is to Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music in some ways. Both are long running double albums with no (or very limited) vocals. Big difference - MMM was unlistenable, just tracks of feedback and noise meant to get back at RCA for forcing Lou to put out an album when he wasn't artistically ready. Ghosts is listenable and was put out for free download by NIN

Money, Money, Money . . . .

and mo' Money

and why not even more!

Always loved the heavy-duty bass line that runs through the O'Jays' song, especially when the bass player 'slaps' the strings instead to plucking them . . Dang, that's just perfection!

Move Over. Lets start with Janis knocking out her original:

and then Steppenwolf's original (i like the creative spinning record video, too!):

A little odd '2-fer'. REmember the hit "Our Lips are Sealed"? It was co-written by Go-Go Jane Weiden and Fun Boy Three frontman Tony Hall. Here's both bands' versions:

Nice T Man...I like the Chromatics song and when I looked them up and saw they had a Tick/Time song it was a good fit to go with this Death in June song

Get Back In Line. Two songs with the same title, from different decades, and both concerned with labor differences.

While it has some great lyrics, that Kinks tune is a little slow. So how about we crank the amps up to 11 with some booty-kickin' from Motorhead:

Sounds Like ...

I saw on the news tonight musician Sam Sheppard had a song that came a little too close to a Tom Petty song and a settlement was reached quietly.
Sam Smith on Tom Petty Settlement: 'Complete Coincidence' | Rolling Stone

These 2 songs below from Linkin Park and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus share a chorus that sounds very similar to me. They're both great ballads from groups that usually play a lot harder & faster.
