Copying files onto CD-RW (help!)

Hi guys. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to write files onto a rewriteable disc. I can do it with a writeable just fine, but I follow all the steps to go onto the CD-RW, it says it's successful/finished/whatever, then nothing's on there! It's getting really frustrating! I want to back up some stuff before I get a new harddrive, but don't want the stuff on just writeable CDs-I know I'll want to change it later.

Thank you, and I appreciate it in advance.

try formatting the disc first

what operating system have you got? if it is XP then the file copying is performed in two stages- the first step looks like it is copying to the CD but it actually isnt (the files look a bit transparent that is a clue)- you have to go and do the second step which is to select the CD drive and instruct the computer to actually copy the files.

(edit: sorry just saw that you can do it OK with writable CDs so the same procedure should work with rewritable ones as well--hmm are they cheapy CDs- my father got some cheapy ones and could not get them to work-still not sure why - it was maybe something to do with formattting)

I've only burned CDs and CD-RWs on FreeBSD and Solaris using cdrecord. I know for a fact that I had to blank the media first. I'm not sure how to do this on other OSes. Check with your writer software on how to blank the disc.
