American Horror Story...I'm done.

The premier of the new American Horror Story was way over the top. I can't believe they can show stuff like that on TV. It was more like a rated-R movie than a TV show. I've been a big fan of the show for a couple years now, but I was shocked and offended by this new series. My wife and I decided we are not watching it anymore. Anyone else think it was inappropriate for TV?

Did you not watch the first year? I thought that was over the top (and so stopped watching). 2 and 3 season were redeeming. Have not yet seen the 4th season preimiere so have to reserve judgement.

I did not see the first season. Really liked 2 and 3. This one is way beyond anything that happened in 2 and 3. It was so bad I don't even want to claim that I watched it. Plus, it wasn't even interesting. The story just wasn't compelling, in my opinion. I am surprised Kathy Bates signed on for it again.

Except I'm not sure the concept of the evil clown existed in the 50's. Where would he even get that mask back then?

Would this be more or less inappropriate than Game of Thrones?

Add to that Life on Mars was from 1971, think that they just pick was looks right without worrying too much about anachronisms.

Game of Thrones is on HBO. AHS is on prime time TV.

Interesting. Didn't even pick up on that. Thought it sounded a little out of place for a period piece. That was actually the best part of the show.

The reason I asked is because I'm a scaredy cat and I can't watch horror, just wondering what level of gore and offensive material AHS has. GoT I watched just recently so I'm using it as a point of comparison.

I've only seen season 3. I liked it although I thought it fell a little flat in the end. I want to see 1 and 2 but for some reason ($$$) OnDemand now charges for that.

OK just read a blog about AHS... not certain I want to see this series... sounds especially creepy and disgusting... and maybe too much creepy sex for my taste...

Season 2 - the Asylum, was my favorite. Season 3 was OK and Seaon One was back to creepy and disgusting...

Being out of place in time/written later than the time period and doing songs from all eras that fit the story is Murphy’s homage to director Baz Luhrmann. He’s said there are songs from Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey and Kurt Cobain in future episodes. From the 'life on mars' number it looks more Luhrmann-esque rather than ‘Glee’.....which is a good thing

Why do you think some content doesn't belong on TV? What is it about the size of the screen and the manner of projection that makes something offensive if it is is created for television but acceptable if it is first released at the cinema, and then later, on your TV via DVD or streaming?

I enjoyed the previous seasons but thought this season's premiere was kind of dull.

I love the "I stopped watchin" but "love the later seasons" post here. lol

As to the OP, I bet you end up going back to it. The shows all about shock value and that's what draws people in (and back after they say they're finished).

I love a series like this. The more dark and twisted, the better.

Nope. I read some reviews of upcoming shows and it sounds like it just gets worse. Just not interested any more. Don't really need shock value.

If GoT grosses you out, don't even think about watching AHS.

I can't stay away from this show, I have watched every season. IMO season 1 was by far the best, season 2 was a bomb. Season 3 has some up and downs and seemed to peak too early.

Now for this season I am hoping we get a nicer Jessica Lange character we can like. I am hoping it the freaks vs the killer clown.
