Sometimes I wish they could be un-invented.

Ya gotta have some fun in your life, and there is nothing wrong with what you are doing.

What sorts of "gadgets" beyond the basic sound system, video system, smart phone and computer are you talking about?

I used to like gadgets in my teens, 20's and 30's. Now I find they are just time-suckers. Perhaps a person starts to realize this once they start to feel their mortality???

I'm loving my new car. Bluetooth phone, Bluetooth audio pairing to my tablet, USB port, graphics display etc.

I also mess with designing electronics, mainly surrounding mcu devices.

I designed and built this for our townhouse community. It is a mcu controlled solar light.

In fact as I am typing this I am starting the first step of making a printed circuit card.

I bet you'll love a CnC milling machine and maybe a 3d printer...

Been wanting to build a cnc for making printed circuit boards but that is a huge job. A number of folks have done it. There is actually software that translates common printed circuit software files to x.y,z coordinates.

I do like my gadgets. I love my Honda with bluetooth. My big Samsung Galaxy Mega phone makes life easy and is as big as a small ipad. My home computer is starting to show it's age and I'm already looking for it's replacement. It will be a nice laptop, just big enough to drop into a backpack if needed.

I am an old retired guy now.... but I worked with some high-tech stuff once. I still love gadgets, tech toys, and such. I've had an automated home for years. Even with recent advances in technology the setup is still pretty high tech. The house is controlled by an old laptop and speaks alarms (and the time) and can even take voice commands for turning lights on/off. But now-a-days I mostly use my phone to control my TV, lights, and the security cameras and such.

The modern smart phones are the coolest tech right now. I just download an app [cyclemeter] to track my cycling. I am kind'a excited about that. No more paper logs and everything is backed-up on the cloud. Did a "test ride" the other day using the app. It was way too cold but at least I learned that the hill I have to climb up to go just about anywhere.... is 365 feet of elevation in less than a mile.

There are actually machines that do this and are readily available... here is one:
LPKF Rapid Prototyping Systems

These things are rather expensive and noisy.

If you just want to do a couple of boards, go for bigger traces and holes (drilled holes and vias) and use a radio shack kit for etching. (I really don't recommend this BTW)

But if you really just want a good quick cheap board... try a company like Sunstone Sunstone Printed Circuit Boards | PCB Prototype & PCB Fabrication

You'll get fast boards, reasonable price and high quality.

BTW I design complicated printed circuit boards for a living... so I have a bit of experience at this.

Hey windhchaser,
You should try to balance it with other activities also I donít know what is your age and profession, but I would recommend you to use it as a career like find Job or work which has more to do with gadgets.

Windchaser, if you like to play with electronic circuits, I recommend a fine application called iCircuit. official website link.
This enables you to draw schematics and watch the circuit simulation, as it happens. Complete with a virtual scope and virtual meter. At this price,
I don't think there is a more powerful app out there. This is produces by an engineering grad student, and some of his friends, who could not find
an app to do what they wanted, at a reasonable price. Several youtube postings and tutorials as well.
