Heard about this last night and been struggling to come up with the words to adequately describe Tom and my respect for him. Not sure that I possess those words. Tom was one of the most gentle and humble members of our forum and was one of the members I wanted to meet in real life. Even when life was at it's most challenging for him, Tom met it with grace and courage, on his terms. Early on in my tenure here, I played Secret Santa and paid for a lifetime membership for Tom. Not sure if he ever knew that. This was not the sort of thing I did at the time, but Tom's story, his grace, his kindness and his intelligence were immediately evident and when he posted about not being able to afford a membership, it just felt like the right thing to do. I do not come here as much as I once did, but Tom was one of the reasons that I stayed as long as I did and that I kept coming back. Rest in Peace sir. We are all better for having known you and we are all diminished by your departure.

If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee."

Tom inspired a lot of us Clydesdales on our weight loss and cycling journey. Like most of us, we never met in person, though I lived only 2 hours from him until he moved to Florida. We were planning an afternoon at the range (one of Tom's other hobbies) before he moved, but the move happened before we had the chance. While we had wildly different religious and political beliefs, I considered him a friend, and I know he did I as well.

While I didn't have as much contact with him as many of you here had he still inspired the deep respect and admiration in me that he did for many of you. Godpseed to you good sir, and may you and Annie enjoy more times together now.

Sorry to hear it. I didn't know Tom on a personal level, but the communications we did have were much like from a friend. Very good guy from what I could tell. He will be missed.

Sore saddle cyclist
How could you not love and admire Tom for all of the qualities that we have all listed here? He wasn't a "cyclist" as many would describe themselves on BF, but like so many of us, cycling enabled a major life change for Tom that extended his life for many years. In that way, he was among the finest cyclists on this forum. His kindness, spirit for life and hard work was an inspiration for so many of us, he will be missed, but we are so fortunate that he stumbled onto this forum so many years ago. There is a huge hole in this community today.

Tom was one of the first people on this forum to welcome me to this forum. I was a super clyde and he showed me what was possible with a little effort and positive thinking.
Tom will be missed.

Tom, wherever you are: We swapped a few PMs, and you were always straight and respectful with me. We
seemed to be on the same wavelength, and for me, that is rather unusual. Like everyone else, I will miss your
humorous wit. Wish I could have known you better. Ride free, brother.

So sad to hear of Tom's passing. He welcomed me to this forum several years ago; sad that I didn't get to know him better. My thoughts and prayers to his family during this difficult time.
RIP Tom

I read Tom's story about a year ago through various posts, and though like many here, I never met him (nor did I have the pleasure of speaking to him directly), he seemed like a gentleman of the highest order...with just the right mix of wit, caring, and firm principles. This forum has brought so many together, and that alone is a legacy worth remembering.
My sincerest condolences to his family, and I hope that they get a chance to see the posts here and know that, even to those outside of his circle of family and friends, his is definitely a life worth cherishing through fond remembrance.
