When he was getting ready to move his boat to Florida, I suggested that perhaps he should sail it down the Mississippi. That never happened, but it was a nice few messages that we exchanged.
He was interesting and a kind person. Tom lives on in the affect he had on us.
Maybe this thread should be a sticky.

Ride it like you stole it
Tom and I had a few discussions about weight loss when I first came to this forum. We went trough some of the same things and had the same procedure. We were only one year apart in age. Sorry to see him go, he will be missed. My condolences to his family.

Good grief! That is one hell of a turn-around.
I've heard a lot of people who aren't even half as obese as that using their obesity as an excuse for not being more physical, Tom seems to have proved that obesity on its own is not a barrier. In those two photos above, he seems to have gone from what some would describe as "beefcake", to relatively fit.
That is a staggering and truly inspiring achievement. It takes a lot of determination to achieve what Tom has done in those 18 months, and I presume continued to do thereafter. Sadly, not enough to save him from further medical troubles.
I never got to meet Tom, in fact I'm very new here, so I hardly know any on this forum. That said, I hope that I can follow in his example, in-spite of any challenges life might put in my way.
Rest in peace, Tom. You've just taught me a very valuable life lesson. Your legacy will live on.

The memorial banner at the top is very classy.

I just saw the banner. This is incredibly sad. I met him on one of the group rides with some other BF members. What a great guy. He'll be missed.

I knew his health wasn't ideal, but I'm very saddened to learn the news!

Tom, a great humanitarian , sage , and cycling champion.. Our site is not the same without Tom.. If only back when Tom was healthier , more of us could have ridden on his beautiful , epic journeys .. I remember Tom in Michigan's UP , out pacing the UP's wild bears. Where ever cycling heaven is, Tom will be there.

I was just thinking about Tom recently, and was fearful that with his long absence that we may not hear from him again on the forum.
As with many on here, I never met him face to face, but he was a friend nonetheless.
After 10+ years of a reignited love of cycling in my "mature" years, another of my biggest online influences have moved on. Sheldon Brown helped me to embrace a sense of adventure related to the cycling world, and reminded me that I don't have to worry about what other people think. Tom Stormcrowe as administrator and contributor here helped me to see a sense of community, that we have something in common worth sharing.
I can envision Sheldon Brown and Tom Stormcrowe riding together, with the wind at their backs, waiting for us to join them when our times come.
Ride on Tom! You are missed!
