Why allow religious proselytizing?

We have a separate sub-forum for P&R. The general forum guidelines specifically prohibit political signatures. Why are religious signatures permitted? Seems religion is no less controversial than politics and is equally irrelevant to cycling. Just asking....

Report them when you see them.

It's not clear to me that it's against the rules. It should be, but the guidelines only mention political. I'll be happy to report them if they are a violation. If not a violation, maybe an explanation from the administrators is in order.

You can turn the signatures off. Go to Edit Options in your Quick Link menu
Find "Thread Display Options", "Visible Post Elements", and then uncheck "Show Signatures".

I do this anyway since signatures are repetitious and IMO clutter up the thread display without adding much, so this is a serious suggestion for you. It's win-win; people have a place to post the semi-spammy messages but you never see it if that's what you want.

Do people's religious signatures offend you?

Report them and let the admins sort it out.

I find them inappropriate rather than offensive, especially since political signatures are prohibited. Most mature adults are able to keep their political and religious preferences to themselves in situations where they are irrelevant. It's just good manners. I'm pleased to learn from wph that I can configure the display to hide them. Thanks!

OK! Signatures are gone, much tidier now, thanks.

I mean can't the same be said about mature adults worrying about themselves? Must everything be filtered or can you just ignore it?

It's great that you found a solution that suits you, but how do you even go to the store or walk in public without someone offending you there?

shelbyfv 07-23-16 09:42 AM

I can't make sense of your first paragraph, but again, I'm not offended....

Sounds good, well again, glad that worked out...I personally like to see their signatures and the more the merrier...helps me judge a person's credibility sometimes you know.

now, now...don't feel suicidal about it.

The self-entertainment value is something else around here lately though ;)

Oh now, who said it was my major complaint? I can probably come up with others! :foo: At any rate, it just seemed inconsistent, in that political signatures are prohibited. As mentioned above, a little preferences manipulation has resolved it for me, wish everything was so easy!
