See quotes, mentions & tags ?
Feeling rather dumb here. Most forums have something, usually upper right, where you can hover and get a drop down of posts where you've been quoted, mentioned, or tagged. This typically with most recent at the top. I thought BF had this as well. I just got a quick pop-up about a couple of post quotes but when I'm at the site I can't seem to find how to display that again.

Not familiar with that in vBulletin. You may be thinking of Brands X or P.

To access that info again, you'll have to go to your profile page, look across the line of tabs that start with the Visitor Message until you see a small tab with >>. Click on that and you'll be presented with a drop down menu for mentions, quotes, and tags.

Thanks. I think 'wonky' is putting it quite nice. Both 'messages' and 'notifications' should always be visible. As well, 'notifications' is not being made visible consistently as happened to me yesterday. It appears that it must only be visible for a brief bit of time after the notification pop-up. Again though, both 'messages' and 'notifications' should always be visible.
