How to turn off spam emails?

I have the option "unchecked" to receive newsletters, etc. I am only supposed to be getting email for PM and FR, and from admin. I really would like not to add BF to my spam list, but keep getting unwanted emails concerning various crud I am not interested in.

Please use the unsubscribe link in the email.

It's more secure to go to Bike Forums and do this in your Control Panel.

Tried twice so far. Do you "see" this action from your end and it just hasn't gone into effect, or what?
