any particular reason bf.net doesn't have an RSS feed? I've seen plenty of vbulletin forums with rss feeds but bikeforums doesn't have one. :( I thought vbulletin supported it natively... does it not? or does the version that bf.net is running not support it?

Operator: RSS Feeds push data to a site of your choice. For example, I use my.yahoo.com and get feeds from various sources, but they typically push data once or twice a day. I'm sure there are other benes, but I'm a simple man.

What about notifacations to threads that a person is subscribed to? Would this be a better then sending an email? Seems like it might reduce network traffic. I use the digest option for my notifactions but I still recieve multiple emails for all of the threads I am subscribed to. Maybe that could be reduced to a single RSS feed, although each user would have to have a feed.

If you want traffic to go down, implement the post reply feature where you click on an icon and it brings you down to the quick reply box with quote original message in reply option. This will practically eliminate the reply page load which is just redundant and wastes bandwidth.

Not true. RSS feeds are pulled from the source to the requestor. For example, the RSS feed on my desktop could pull new posts from BF's site.

RSS feeds allow users to subscribe to feeds that they are interested in. A "feed" is an XML file, in an RSS format, that contains an abstract of a resource on the internet. There is data within the feed that describes the resource (title, description, date etc). Some RSS readers will integrate with ones mail software, so new items come up looking like mail. Others are stand alone. The benefit for a user is that all of the things I'm interested in are located in one piece of software. BF postings might appear in a list with an RSS feed from Velonews for example. RSS has become a very common standard for syndicating content. All of the major news sites use it as well as many blog sites etc.
