Can’t respond or select after logging in

Prowler has reported a post.

Reason:
I’m now having trouble using the site. I can log in but cannot select anything. No response to “clicking” anything, anywhere on the site. I’m on my iPhone now but my OS ipad lost responses yesterday as did my OS Mac mini. On both devices ALL other websites respond normally.

Please respond via my email as I cannot even access the BF PM tool. Other than logging in the site acts dead.

I was hoping an Admin would help here. Is this problem now hoping for another member to fix?

Was there a BF software change just yesterday that may have caused this? Is the BF software no longer supporting some versions of Apple OS, some pretty recent versions? Is there a list of supported and not supported os and iOS versions? Is there any user notifications of such changes?

Again - ALL other websites I normally visit are working just fine. My machines are working just fine.

We had a very minor update, but it should still be supporting all OSs. Which one are you having trouble with? Are you using Safari?

Yes, using Safari. iPad is OS 9.3.5

Same problem on Mac mini OS 10.13.6

my iPhone 6 works ok but I never use it to read BF. Too small. I use this for a phone.

New info: if I access BF as a total stranger, not logged in, the site responds to input via my iPad. Is my account messed up somehow?

once logged in I get no response to stimulus. I cannot even log out.

please advise. I’m blacked out right now.

No, your account looks totally fine. Can you try bypassing your cache while logged in on your Mac Mini?

I’m not clear on what you want. When I log onto BF I enter I’d & pw them the logon button which loads the page. I tried bypassing cache during that load. No affect. Bypassing cache after BF loads. No affect.

On Safari on the Mac mini, when you sweep across a webpage every time you sweep over a hyperlink the pointer changes to a pointing finger hand. When I’m not logged onto BF that change happens all over the BF page, where ever it should. Once I’m logged in the cursor icon never changes. No pull down menus activate either.

again, this issue occurred on both types of machine on the same day. Ok at dawn, dead that evening. The two machines (mini desktop and iPad) are not and never were connected. My iPhone uses the same router and isp so that does not seem to be the problem.

I’ll try calling Apple tech support.

New information. I've been using your standard mode on my iPad and on my desk top, of course. I just went to BF using my iPad, changed to mobile before logging in. It's fully functional. When I first contacted you folks it was via my iPhone using the default mobile mode as on my two other platforms BF was frozen once I logged in. It works fine on mobile mode. It appears the issue is not with my machines nor my SW.

It it looks like the issue is with your desktop, standard mode, once logged in as a paying member.

Please advise.

Same symptoms on vivaldi and chrome desktop browsers

I have the same problem as others. The site works perfectly when not logged in but will not respond to any clicks after I log in. Hovering over links or icons does not change the mouse pointer to indicate you are over a clickable link. There is no clickable spot anywhere on the page. This is on current Vivaldi and Chrome browsers.

I am a non-paying member (will remedy that soon

The mobile version on my Amazon Fire works fine.

Thanks

I would raise the priority

Being a computer guy by trade, I would put this problem at high priority. The problem shows on both Apple and Windows, on many different browsers. that indicates a more global problem, not something that is tied to a weird combination of machine or OS.

My perception is that posting activity the past few days is lower than normal. Anyone who gets locked out and doesn't have another machine to report from can't send a bug report. You may not have an accurate picture of how many people are affected.

Thanks

Good to hear that I'm not alone. Interesting suggestion about unknown problems because members cannot report issues as the site appears to be dead. I wonder......

BTW:. Would some Admin please delete my email address from the first post in this thread - before the web crawlers find it and my spam load explodes with volume. Thanks

Cookies are the culprit

I played with this and found that cookies are the problem. Deleting cookies fixes it.

The simplest fix for users is to delete all their cookies. There is a drawback. They will lose the remembered logins and settings for ALL sites they use. Not a problem other that having to login again.

I was able to fix just BikeForums without affecting my other sites by deleting all cookies that had 'bikeforums' in the name, and also 'bikeradar' ( I think that was it. I should have made paid more attention).

That does not help me. I've deleted all website data several times. It was the only way I could log off BF. Same issue after I log back on to BF.

Sounds like there is still a problem somewhere. I have logged in and out using both of my browsers without issue after I cleared the cookies.

When you cleared your data, how far back did you clear it? Some browsers default to just the last few hours. I presume you would need to clear the cookies at least back to when the problem started - i.e. a week or a month or maybe forever.

I'm on strict diet so both Safari machines are set to remove all cookies forever. I'm not enamored with an enriched user experience so am fine with blowing away all that garbage. So, I've deleted all cookies and history forever, numerous times. Dumped caches, removed extensions, etc. I'm not convinced it's NOT something in the BF baseline. Still out in the cold.

I've also noticed that the Admins seem to have wandered off leaving this thread untouched.

Hi guys,

If this is happening to multiple users, like it appears, I'll report to tech right now.

P.S. Prowler, I deleted you email address.

Thank you for deleting the email address. I did not realize some admins we're corporate. Understand about weekends. I mostly never worked weekends either.

Thanks for following up on this issue. Mobile version continues to work just fine on my iPad, though I much prefer the full site version. Still not able to access via my desk top and full site model

More updates: no improvement on this issue. It’s been about 2 more weeks now. I am currently visiting my son, 400 miles from home. Entirely different ISP and IT infrastructure . On his machines I found:

Samsung tablet, Android OS, Chrome browser, BF full site mode - no issue. Full functionality on full site mode after logging on.

Windows machine, windows 10 V 1809 OS, Chrome 79 browser - same issue as on my Apple platforms after I log into BF. Site is as dead as a pile of horse manure.

Something is wrong. Can BF help? Are they working this?

There's no indication that there's a problem on our end. You said that the cursor becomes a "click" finder when on the site. And yet when you click nothing happens? Did you clear your cache? Not your cookies, your cache.

Why are you still using 1803? when 1909 came out last year? I even got my stubborn Win 7 HP upgraded to it. Do you mean 1803 or 1909?

1803 was upgraded in November 2019.

I'm not sure what "click finder" is. When working ok my cursor is an arrow. When if detects a link it turns to a hand with a pointing finger. Currently on my Apple machines, full site, after logging on that arrow never turns to a finger, finds no links and I cannot use the site. Cannot even log off. I'm well aware of where the links are but None of them are detected. I was somewhat concerned that I had a problem on my end. That's why I tried this on my son's machines. I was surprised when his Windows machine displayed the same problem. Absolutely nothing in common with my machines here in Pennsylvania, other than the BF platform. I was equally surprised when his Android/Chrome platform worked fine. What would cause an issue on two completely different operating systems with different browsers?

How can a problem that is not with BF manifest on completely different setups, 600 miles apart (I checked the distance after posting on Monday)? Different make machines, different operating systems, different browsers, different routers, different ISP, different everything.

I cannot speak to any versioning on his infrastructure. Thats his department. The point of my update was that the problem is not unique to what my home IT system is.

On my machines at home, yes, I've cleared cache several times. Cleared cache, history, cookies. No improvement. I did not troubleshoot the problem on my son's Windows machine. Did not see any point. Cannot do that now, we're home.

Well either that change helped or I owe you folks an apology. Both my iPad and my desktop now work just fine.

Even though I crabbed like a fish wife, I still remained skeptical about my own machines. I continued doing searches on clearing cache but, tonite, searched by iOS versions rather than by device name. I found the same load of websites as before with the same unhelpful information as before but I finally found one that recommended different: procedure for manually clearing cache from Safari site by site. Once I did that the machines yielded full function on BF full site mode. I'll repeat that procedure now from time to time.

Now Murphy's law says you folks found the "wrong skin" thing at about the same time, at least the same day. Thank you. I don't know which fix or both did the trick but I looks like I'm fine now.

I'll leave you alone now. Sorry if my frustration slipped through and affected my normal aristocratic demeanor.🙁
