Am I missing something?
Is there a setting where I can choose to automatically go the the first unread post on any thread Ive been to before, rather than always go to the original post?
The 3 thread display mode options (linear, threaded, hybrid) in the User CP do not seem to offer this option.

Click on the blue chevron to the left of the thread subject.

If it's not there, then there aren't any new posts since you last were there. Unless you used the mark forum read tool to mark all as having been read.

You should experiment and click or double click on any thing to see if it does something. If you double click the bicycle on the left side of a sub-forum in the list of sub-forums, then it will mark that sub-forum read. The sideways blue chevron in the Last Post column to the right of the thread subject will take you to that last post.
Sometimes you get clues. The mouse pointer might change, but not always. A URL might show up at the bottom of your browser window or if you hover long enough over the item a message might pop up telling what action will be done.
