I composed a reply to the Totally Tubular thread in the C&V forum. It was kinda lengthy. When I went to post it, I got, "Some of the characters in your post are not allowed." Grrr... Hit the back button, my composed message was gone, and it didn't offer to restore from a snapshot. I just tried it here, inserting the text for the internationally recognized text symbol for a shrug (see below). Same result, but when I backed up, there was my message text. What's up with that? When someone hits the submit button, shouldn't saving the poster's message content be the first thing that's done?

That said, this is 2023. You'd think entering text encoded as UTF-8 would be supported. Is PHP not fully Unicode compliant?

That I get. What I don't understand is why my post content wasn't saved the first time. When testing it here, all I did was pasted the "shrug" text, hit the submit button (so I could copy the error message), then hit my browser's back arrow button (expecting my existing text would be gone), and was surprised when it wasn't.
