Redirects to http:/// ??

Last night there was a thread in the General Discussions forum that I clicked to see. But as soon as the thread appeared (I did see it for about 1/2 second) it would redirect and I'd get a blank page with the URL of "http:///" in the address box.

This was at home in FireFox.

Just now I replied to a thread in Foo (at work using IE now) and as soon as it came back after my post, it redirected to "http:///" as well.

It's surely a forum issue as its happening at two different places with two different browsers.

I just wanted to make you all aware of it (if you weren't already) so you can try to see what's happening.

Same here. I reply to a post, then it directs me to a blank page with "http:///" on the address bar.

Me too. I thought I had a virus, but it's gotta be a problem with BF. It's something to do with the ads that load at the bottom of the page.

Odd, I have not yet been able to re-create this one...

It's happening to me too! :(

Win 2k, Internet Explorer, Cable Modem

Perhaps, it's the quick reply?

I don't think so, because the first time it happened to me (last night) I was only trying to view a thread.

Va_Cyclist is probably right....I would guess it would be the ads.

Nope, not quick reply

I did a "view source" on a page that just did it to me....and here is an ad that I thought, maybe, looked a little funny.

Code:

<tr valign="top">
        <td class="alt2" width="175" height="125">
                                <font color="red">
 <b>Sponsored links:</b> </font><br>
        </td>
        <td class="alt1">
<div>
<script type="text/javascript"><!--
google_ad_client = "pub-xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx";
google_alternate_ad_url = "http://";
google_ad_width = 336;
google_ad_height = 280;
google_ad_format = "336x280_as";
google_ad_type = "text";
google_ad_channel ="4097677465";
google_page_url = document.location;
google_color_border = "FFFFFF";
google_color_bg = "FFFFFF";
google_color_link = "0000CC";
google_color_url = "000000";
google_color_text = "000000";
//--></script>
<script type="text/javascript"
  src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/show_ads.js">
</script>
</div>

        </td>
</tr>

Note the "alternate ad url".

Only does it in IE for me. Swapped over to FireFox for my BF browsing and all is good.

Walkafire 09-22-05 08:22 AM

I was getting it in FF and IE both. :(

tippy 09-22-05 09:58 AM

Did a google search on google_alternate_ad_url

Does anyone from BF technical department know if this had been fixed yet? Apparently it is in the "Google Ads" js. I noticed this and hit STOP on my browser (IE) before the js ran and it seems keep the js from running. The Google search says that if the js doesn't any related ads to the thread, the js loads the alt URL. So, I guess if the alt URL is left blank (http:///) then it loads a page that "cannot be displayed".

Hopefully, the BF technicians have fixed the problem by now.

Thanks.

What exactly was it? Just out of curiosity.

Joe Gardner 09-22-05 02:03 PM

You had it right with the Google alternate_ad_url ... I simply removed alt-ads, and will show PSA's if google dosent know what Ad to show on a page.
