Advocacy is Political!

Hey Joe while you are making changes, maybe advocacy and safety could be separated and advocacy put near the political discussions form. Advocacy by definition is political and the cycling world needs more advocacy!

While there will always be a grey area between advocacy and politics under certain cirumstances, I don't think it should be confused with political posts that have nothing to do with cycling. Advocacy and Safety deal with issues that directly relate to cycling. However, many of the threads in the Political Discussions forum do not. Personally, I'd leave it as it is.

Simply enough, the Advocacy & Safety forum is a sub-forum under the "Bicycle Topics" group. The Political Discussions forum is a sub-forum under the "Community Center", ie, non-bicycling topics.

I cant say that i have received a single complaint about the advocacy topics. Where as i have dozens of complaints; and we have lost dozens of members due to the high number of political threads.

I know a lot of you do not like what i have done, but this is a cycling forum. I will do my best to keep it cycling based.

I have to disagree.
I'm the bicycling advocacy contact person in one of the Atlanta area cycling organizations. I work with several other organizations in the area and one of our main areas of emphasis is safety for cyclists.

Advocacy doesn't just mean working for better cycling accomodations, bike lanes and paths, working with corporations to get their support and dollars, or working with political organizations to get laws changed or new laws passed.

Advocacy also means promoting safety. This includes getting cyclists AND motorists to take Effective Cycling classes, encouraging cyclists to wear helmets, promoting Bike to Work month, commuting, safety on organized rides, etc.

Joe here's my 2 cents. Leave the Safety and Advocacy forum where it is.
