Search update

The tech team has been working on improving search to address many of the issues you've been reporting here. They will be rolling out an improved search with a more stable back-end and more reliable monitoring of the index. The improved function is integrated into vbulletin, so you may see some changes in the interface.

Please let us know if you see any bugs or glitches or if you have any questions.

So far it seems much quicker and smoother but...

sorting by date doesn't seem to work
searching for powercranks returns no results but powercrank and powercranking do

There doesn't seem to be any weight to the results. ie search "Wheelset" "sort by relevancy" and the first result is the newest but only has wheelset in it once, should be the post with "wheelset" the most times.

not working for me.....could you undo the improvements until you debug a little more?
I'm using Firefox for data points, and never had a problem until you "improved" the search function.....

Is there a way to search for threads containing two or more specific words?

For example, a search for "CAAD9 upgrade" returns all threads having only one of the words - not very useful.

Search "CAAD9 upgrade" with the quotes and it will return anything that has both words next to eachother. For example this is the only thread that says caad9 upgrade. It is tough to get the exact string of words someone would search. Usually you can put caad9 + upgrade so all the threads must have both words but not necesarily next to each other but it doesnt seem to work for the search.

It appears to be working now. It may have been a temporary issue.

Search it just like that. With the quotes. That will search for the exact match.

Just did a search for "cable housing cutter" (without quotes), sort by relevance, and the top result?...
The "Beer" thread.

+ 1

Everytime I search for something, I'll get several irrelevant posts which contain the word. Overall, I find it more difficult to find what I'm looking for and more often than not, i can't find the older posts I want.

The search has been working great for me... I even searched for "cable housing cutter" (with quotes) and got a list of the following threads:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...housing+cutter
https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...housing+cutter
and on

Well I was going to post my own concern about search function change. Do not like change in search function. Does not seem to work as well but I seem to be in minority. Seems to be more liberal. Will try it again.

Update: Tried search for RaceFace Cadence. Get results without Raceface makes search not as meaningful. Most of results do not have Raceface in it.

Did another search & half the posts do not have half the words I was seraching for. Tried sram chain with ultegra 10 speed. Intent was to see if I could SRAM chain on SHIMANO System.

Also seems to default to 250 results & appears to provide almost identical list as if I went into Bicycle Mechanics forum & look at each page.

Maybe I am not using new search correctly? Any ideas??

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Try quotation marks, and especially if your search term has 3 characters or less. Use Boolean search technique as well.
