Dead Bikers Aren't Much Fun!

Mr. Moderator,

Could we please have a separate forum for all those damned "another cyclist killed" stories? That way they'd be easier to ignore.

In Canada, about 78 cyclists are killed every year (according to Coyne in the National Post). At least three times as many people drown each year, but you don't find swimming sites wailing over each death. I've heard that in America, your chances of being hit by lightning are worse than your chances of being killed on a bike. The obsessing over each bike fatality that I hear in forums like this gives the impression that cycling is much more dangerous than it is. I'm sure it must deter newbies from cycling, which I take to be a bad thing.

I agree it's a tragedy for the family and friends of a cyclist killed in the streets. But let's keep them in a separate forum.

Mr. Moderator,

Oh wait... there's already one and it seems to be called, Forum Suggestions & User Assistance!

Brianwh, you may wish to repost your suggestion there.

why, no one from admin has replied and his question hasn't been answered. You dont just 'kill threads', people have taken time to write them and want an answer.

wouldn`t giving these posts their own forum defeat the object that Brainwh is trying to achieve.

If I was a newbie and found a separate forum devoted to cycling deaths I would be thinking "oh my God these guys must be dying like flies-cycling must be more dangerous than base jumping with just a couple of laundry bags!!!!!!!!!"

I wouldnt go near a bike.

Whiney junior member's aren't much fun either.

Here's an idea: The "dead cyclist" threads have obvious titles - If you don't like them DON'T FARGING READ THEM!

Pretty simple don't you think?

First the FCC now this guy. Whatever happened to free will?

I think you are mssing the point here-Brianwh doesnt want to even read the titles and be confronted with the ephemeral nature of life and the uncomfortable reality of his own mortality

"The horror. The horror." Chances are he won't even know where that came from.

RiPHRaPH- I remember that song "Dead Puppies". Remember the song about Kinko, the kid-loving clown? Funny back then, but oh-so-prophetic now.... yuck!

As far as creating a separate forum, it's probably not going to happen. The best thing you could do is just pass on reading it and move on. Another forum member mentioned it's another sad reality of riding, but it certainly doesn't mean that it should be censored because it's sad or because someone doesn't like reading about it. And regardless of what some people think, there may be something gained or learned that others can take away from the reports so that riders can use the information to better protect themselves from repeating some of the errors made or the harmful situations they found themselves in.
