Need help,get backup Mtb running

Hi to all,I am 43 and a keen cyclist.I am recovering from a cycling accident with car that cut me off(ie two painfull broken arms). My loved giant mtb is trashed so I am breaking out my only backup bike as I am eagerly getting ready to painfully ride short distances(ie 5.5 weeks have passed).
But enought rambling by me ,the question is my backup mtb is a malvern star rocktrail but the shocks are not working properly.
I want to replace them and have oportunity to get a set of Manitou SX-R forks new but old stock for AU$120.00.As I dont know much about shocks,I need any advice....urgently.
Please help an old warrior get back on the road as I just love to cycle.Help will be appreciated.thanks from Flashsmo...
