Will this software update improve things for those of us on this side of the world? I was told once long ago that the reason I was having so many difficulties with this site is because of an asian server that doesn't work very well.

I havne't seen the dreaded database error so far today (being 1045am in the UK) so hopefully that's fixed. I have found several times that the "loading" icon in Firefox just sits and spins while other sites load fine.

4:35 a.m., took me several minutes/clicks to get into this thread to report that the errors have returned with a vengeance :-(

I do not know, Machka.....hopefully would be the only response I can give here?

I'm getting them as well, RTdub. Bear with us. As you saw from Ibobi's response, a fix is in the works, and meantime, this glitch seems to be limited to the morning here.

Knowing the powers to be are working on this, I'm sure things will be good ASAP.
Having issues here again, just saying.
I'm running Win7, Firefox11, and the issues are random.

Machka 04-13-12 05:09 AM

Yep ... as evening comes on, and we settle in to have a browse after work ........ the Database Errors return! Every other click.

They started about 7 pm here and haven't let up for the past 2 hours.

Bets on whether or not I can post this???

Tom Stormcrowe 04-13-12 05:43 AM

And I know it's extremely frustrating. It is for me, too, believe me.

You mean like when you implemented this version of the software? Based on that fiasco, I'll probably be the only person who can still use the site!

oh lookie, more database errors. Be very grateful that you don't work for me.

RT 04-13-12 07:20 AM

Tom, don't feel bad. Performance starts double points today and their website is unpingable:

Pinging 64.239.245.142 with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.

Someone dropped the ball on their capacity planning...

197 refreshes before I got to page 2 of this thread. Knowing that someone may be working on it is one thing, but is it a possibility that we could get an "official" statement on what the issue is along with some projection of the anticipated fix?

Maybe someone left Auto Update Statistics turned on?

Sorry everybody, looks like I jinxed it all. Been getting database errors for a good part of the afternoon (UK time).

Tom Stormcrowe 04-13-12 10:42 AM

It's all your fault, contango. ;)

Well you know it's really due to the fact that the internet swirls the opposite way down under.

Shhh. Don't even mention the existence of other forums, or your post will be deleted.

Tom Stormcrowe 04-13-12 07:19 PM

And we are back up, as you can see. We were offline fpor repairs. Hopefully, most of the problems were addressed.

Chicago Al 04-13-12 07:50 PM

Not only have had no db errors (in last 10 mins of being on) but the site is loading much faster for me. It had been hanging badly at times, for months.

Thanks, Tom!

Thank the tech people....:D They did the fix.

OKIE_55 04-13-12 08:45 PM

A BIG thank you to who ever got things repaired, we all can get our fix now.

himespau 04-14-12 05:44 AM

Poor Chipster still living in Database Error land. Oh well, I guess it's his own fault.

Thank you Tom. I initially attributed the errors to my smartphone's connection. But I too encountered numerous and seemingly random errors. Oddly, P&R was one of the more cooperative sub-forums

Update

Yesterday morning, BF was down entirely with a database error and a message that work was being done.
So we left for Melbourne.
When we returned in the evening, things seemed to be working a bit better.
Very hard for us to tell for sure because our internet connection gets screwed up when there are a lot of tourists around ... but when all the sites we visit don't connect, we have to assume it's our internet connection and not just BF.
This morning the connection was a little bit better.
And one database error this morning.
This evening ... the tourists are gone and the connection seems even better.

Thanks, Machka....it's good to hear the Server Hamster is successfully making it to the back of beyond. ;)
