Why is my post on this forum being copied and posted on another site?

I was googling for an answer for this question I had which I posted on this forum:

https://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...out-of-package

and apparently it has also been posted here with a fake date:
https://www.cyclebetting.com/08/2012/...-of-package-2/

Looked like someone else's post from here was put on the betting forum too. Scary.

On one engineering forum I use, the content there periodically gets copied onto some fake Chinese engineering forums. Why? Trying to build traffic for those sites for free. And it violates some copyright, but if they're in China and there's not millions of dollars involved, it's not worth doing a whole lot about.

We should all make a bunch of posts about how crappy that site is, etc., and they'd probably get copied right along with the rest of it.

I noticed the same thing with one of my posts in the last week as well. Kinda weird, but really doesn't bother much since this is all public anyway. Of course if I owned the site, I'd probably feel differently. As for now I hope more exposure gives me a better chance of my question getting answered.

A widespread practice that has been around for a long time. Various fake forums copy member discussions from legitimate forums and pretend that they actually happened of the former. Some web sites use this simply as a way to generate "googleable" content to attract traffic. Other genuinely attempt to use it as a way to generate "initial" forum content, hoping that "the people will come" and the forum will continue as a legitimate one (Yeah, right...).

Funny, I notice that these days USENET content is often easier to find on various fake forums who stole it from USENET than in Google Groups.

^^This. I'm moving the thread from General Cycling to User Assistance so the upper management will see it.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

We're aware of the scraping and it's very hard to stop. The laws are difficult to enforce and this site is outside US Jurisdiction.

Web forums and usenet get scraped. Often the usernames are changed but the posts are just copied.

It's my understanding that the sites that do this aren't trying to generate their own forums at all. They are doing it to obtain automatic-placement ads like Google Adsense and so on,,,, but then, those ads are diverted to appear on yet other web addresses, so that they can be used for pay-for-click schemes and then the pay-per-click business can't be tracked back to the scraping site.

Not a lot can be done, really. Many of them in China or Russia.

Fareed Zakaira sort of did the same thing - now a months or more suspension from CNN and Time.
