"Software Update" Re-direct?
I've been getting re-directed to another website occasionally when I post a reply here on C&V.
I don't remember the name of the website, but it's not familiar and not Microsoft. EDIT: the website is PCUPGRADE.COM I only get this re-direct page when posting to C&V, so doubt it's related to any actual "outdated software" problem with my computer, which is 6mos old and running Windows8. Of course I wouldn't trust a download from any such unknown site, but wondering if anybody else here experiences this and what they might know about it. Thanks much for any info! |
Run Malware bytes and spycatcher to see if that fixes the problem.
|
I actually just had the same webpage pop up while browsing around on here; I'm running a virus scan now too.
|
I've seen this too, I'm using Chrome for browser and Windows 8.1. Neither MS Security Essentials or Malware Bytes finds anything on my system.

I think occasionally the advertising in the sidebar turns out to be a bad guy.
I would have a heck of a time with Polaris and Dodge Ram ads. |
Paid members have no such issues, but I told you that last time you complained.

In addition to AV, I use duck-duck-go as my search engine and run Firefox with several privacy add-ons, including AdblockPlus, Better Privacy, Disconnect, Privacy Badger and HTTPS Everywhere... (It probably still is not nearly enough, but it does make it just a little bit harder for the bad guys to load their spyware). |

To say that? I say "congratulations" in the most uncongratulatory manner possible. Have a pleasant day. |

I've been getting the redirect, too. AV and spyware scans found nothing locally.

Yet another reason to pay the nominal fee for the yellow jersey next to your name. No ads.
|
The red star is a better deal, but I guess they don't offer it anymore. I'll be 90 when my subsription expires.
|
I asked, essentially, "what's going on here", and you (Grand Bois) turned it into me "complaining".
A little presumptious, to say the least, and how is anybody so sure that paying dues prevents hackers or whoever from hijacking someone's browser with deceptive and presumptive warnings about their software being out of date? |

hey, op, i started getting scary pop-ups from here on my android phone, so, you're not alone.
|
Kinda like a protection racket huh......pay the man and you don't get hacked? I don't think so.
OP I'm glad you posted too. I had similar issues a while back and I think it's in the side bar ads. |

Apple.
…just a thought. |
My point is that members get no advertising so they don't have these problems. It's worth the cost of membership to me.
|
I understand your point- the issue is the brazen lack of tact in saying it.
It's kind of ****ed up that your scrapbook 15,000th post was spent on being a dick to someone who contributes a WEALTH of knowledge to this forum. |

OP I'm glad you posted too. I had similar issues a while back and I think it's in the side bar ads. The ad companies that make the ads want their customers to get their message across- so you get overbearing ads that take over your computer and use up processor and memory allocations to make the ad impossible to ignore. Advertisers want their return on the investment of advertising. Whoever on BF or Internet Brands or whoever vets the ads can miss stuff like hijacking software in the ads. It shouldn't be an issue with reputable advertisers and ad companies- but you never know... I guess... |
It's an occasional re direct problem for me as well, and while I'm just reading a post. I don't even click on anything yet a re direct happens at times.
