Quoting, Notifications, and Ignore List.

Evidently the system still notify you if someone on your ignore list has quoted you. Can we fix this please. You should not be notify by any activities of people on your ignore list. As of now, someone on your ignore list can still harrass you by keep on quoting you.

Edit: Tittle should be quoting, notifications, and ignore list.

I just turn off the notifications, that's the easiest approach. Subscribe to the threads that you want to check back on, and don't rely on the notifications.

Just curious, how many on your ignore list so far? I think I have four at the moment. LOL Not sure what it is about this site, but there is no shortage of confrontational jerks that just want to get under my skin!

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do that.

5 thus far. It's rediculous the amount of energy they have to just sit around all day posting content that doesn't possitively contribute to anything. And see? These accounts are hurting the forum. We legit users are now having to use the forum differently and less ideally because of them.

This site just need better user control and management imo.

I don't think it is harassment if you post something and someone else quotes you in a relevant context. If you have notifications turned on then you are essentially harassing yourself, no?

Double check your settings.

Settings->User Tagging->settings. Make sure that "Enable Quote Restriction" and "Hide Quote Alerts" are checked. That should take care of it.

I personally have every single one of those boxes checked.

Oh thank you. What does enable quote restriction do?

That might be Jesus in your picture. Since your words are too irrational to fathom, I think you probally should change your picture because your thoughts are "hurting" the forum, and possibly not someone's world.

Moral of the story, I think: Your thoughts are valued a certain way, therefore, you should not be allowed to voice your opinion, maybe.

No1mad had a great tip regarding notifications off. Thanks for the info.

Side note

We should all try and be pals. In the end, the words don't amount to unspoken knowledge of the human struggle. Let's all put on our bf kits and do a nice cruise ride.

I think somebody with only 60 posts and a signature using a masked obscenity in their signature should probably lighten up and go read the Terms and Conditions for this site before being peeved like that...

You are on a bad footing and can do better...we WANT you here, only you can get yourself in trouble.

You may have some problems in life, pedal harder. And change the signature, please.

In my opinion, harassment has a lot to do with tone. Reread what you just wrote and look at it from a different point of view. You can't see that what you wrote is confrontational? I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here that you aren't just trolling. How exactly is it harassing oneself, if the OP isn't even familiar with the fact that the settings can be changed? Seriously, cut the guy some slack and help him learn the ropes instead of redirecting blame. Perhaps the posters on @ricefarmerr 's ignore list weren't out of line in anyway... I don't know, I haven't read the other threads. Whatever the case, your own response doesn't build any bridges, it just fans the flames. Not sure if that was your intent or not?

From my own perspective, referring to my above post, I do find that bikeforums.net is one of the more confrontational forums of the half dozen or so that I frequent. No clue why this particular site rubs me that way, might just be that it has heavier net traffic.

I see no correlation between a specific number of posts and a signature that is one of the rules has anything to do with needing to lighten up, and have problems in life. In the case that you are not familiar with the rules, here is the link: Velominati ? The Rules

It took you only about 50 posts before you threw a tantrum in your own thread, then went on an extended whine to the mods about how some users don't contribute enough and you should be able to prevent those people from posting in your precious threads, then accused me of harassing you for daring to quote you in a post.

Just about everyone is familiar with "the rules" although most of us try to ignore that stupid website. Remember that "the rules" are meant to be a joke. It's not worth having a discussion on that topic, trust me.

Also, I have some friendly advice. When you are angry at someone on here, don't respond to them right away. Take a break and walk away from the computer and cool off. Nothing wrong with your post that I just quoted, but some of your other comments are incredibly inflammatory. Cyclosaurus and patentcad were definitely trolling you, and you are in the right to ignore them both. Telling patentcad to f-off, however, is lowering yourself to the same level. There's an expression, "don't feed the trolls" which should be added to the Velominati-rules. Yes, he was out of line... but it was also a relatively polite jab that was easily ignored. It takes two in order to escalate a flame war. Fortunately, you are now aware of the ignore feature on this website, which should make it easier for you to not engage with someone attempting to get under your skin.

You made another post, last month, which was one-sided. Telling Will Goes Boing to f-off was rude, and frankly, you owe the man an apology. You can't just throw around f-off like that if you want other members to help you. If I was a site moderator (I'm not, not on this site, at least), I would have already sent you a warning that the next time you tell someone to f-off, you would be banned for a month. That sort of language is not and should not be tolerated. Don't set yourself up to get in trouble. Even before that post, you were confrontational. I'm guessing that English isn't your primary language; you probably don't even realize how you came across? It was really rude.

Try to remember to treat others how you want to be treated. Most people on here will go out of their way to help you if you are polite. Of course, some people are just jerks for no reason... the challenge is figuring out who wants to help you and who wants to cause trouble, and to ignore the later. If you feel the need to respond in anger, it really is best to not respond at all. I've had a few members here give me a hard time for no reason, I just ignore them and walk away; I'm much happier for taking that approach. Whatever the case, don't tell others to "f-off." No one is going to help you or defend you here (or anywhere) when you talk like that.

Be well.

I'm just gonna throw this out here.. I've been on this site since 2011 and I have one person on my ignore list.. and I'm a fairly abrasive guy. If your ignore list is filling up, you may want to consider that the others may not so much be the problem as yourself, perhaps you can ask yourself "What can I do to better fit into this preexisting community, rather than expect the community to change as I wish it".
