Rear wheel offset

Hi, is the rear wheel offset due to cogs?
I googled and the only thing I could find was that it wasn't but after several issues with wheel alignment with my jig I tried an 10 mm offset and suddenly it aligned just fine.
Is my wheel odd(alexrims s480) or is my jig wrong?

Nvm, I read about the trick to flip the wheel to check alignment which showed that it was centered.

Common set ups have the rim centered over the axle end lock nuts, and the frame also centered rear triangle to main triangle. But some "bikes" do get purposely off set in both rear frame and rear wheel for various clearance or product availability reasons. Recumbents, travel bikes come to mind. Andy

No, a standard rear triangle is symmetrical around the bike's central plain.

The wheel is built with the rim on the central plain, and only the hub flanges are offset to make room for the cassette. This is why we speak of dished rear wheels.

Your Hub, (cassette type) is off center.. Dish does that..
but the rim is centered.. In a super wide Tandem Wheel then the hub can be centered under the rim..
