Powder Coater Needed

Hello,

From what I'm reading, not all Powder Coating jobs are created equal and bike frames (tubes) are especially challenging. Can anybody recommend somebody they've personally used and are happy with? Frame will need to be Sand/Media basted and then treated for rust before coating.

Also, any idea what a fair price for the work described would be?

PS - I'm in the Los Angeles area and would prefer somebody local but can ship if need be to the right person.

I do not know what your definition of especially challenging is. I have been powder coating frames for fifteen years, and would not call it challenging. (unless you get into doing combination paint schemes). There are a few special things required, like a seat post hanger and a way to rotate the frame, and also ability to "flip" the frame upside down and also cover the bottom bracket threads. I think that you should call around locally and ask them if they can do bike frame(s)?

Thanks for the info Brian.

I read that if the coating is applied too heavy/thick the finer details around head post, seat post, chain-stays etc. gets lost as does the readability of embossed logos, serial numbers etc.

While really good powder will retain a lot of surface detail this goal is not why powder exists. If detail is a big factor look at wet paint. Andy
