Schwinn Superior repair to Seatube?
Looking for expert opinion on this bike I picked up last weekend.
This is almost nice 78 Schwinn Superior, Hand Brazed Frame
The seat post was cut down, probably damaged.
Do you think its possible to have a piece welded on to extend. I have a similar Frame I can measure from.
The Schwinn Tube is 29.6 mm Tube, Schwinn called it 1-1/8 with 1.27 mm wall (.050)
Also holes drilled in DT for a water bottle holder. Thought maybe these could be lugged.
Thanks

I doubt welding would work, due to brass contamination from the adjacent fillet. If it were my frame, I'd look to fabricating a quill-type seat post to obviate the need for a binder and slot in the seat tube.
It wouldn't be hard to braze bottle mount bosses into those holes, but you could also use Rivnuts and not burn any paint.
Between a quill type seat post and Rivnut bottle mounts, you could avoid having to repaint the frame.

Blender,
I'm not sure about the why a seat post clamp area would be cut on a bike like this. If it were in my stable a trip to the local co-op with an eye for a replacement frame would be in order. There are always older model Schwinn frames around, and you might even find the same size and date to replace this damaged frame. The cross over would take about four hours with hub overhauls and new cables, but would be a fully restored bike to original specs.

What ever gets done please consider reducing the rear brake cable casing's loop size, way too large. Andy

Thanks for this Advice,
I have never seen quill mount seat posts before and i've dug through many used part piles.
Hopefully I can locate one for this tube diameter. Great solution.
Also never considered the Rivnut solutio.

If I cant repair I do have a couple good 72 26" and a 73 24" Super sport frames (Both need repaint) I can move parts over too, Just need a Bottom bracket adapter.
That's one of the reasons I grabbed it for $33.00. Worth the parts

You can make a quill mount seat post out of a regular seat post. You need a wedge and a long enough bolt. A wedge from a 1 1/8" quill stem might work
I just saw a repair where the person cut out the seat tube below the top tube and made a piece to be welded in. Like what Paragon Machine calls a seat collar https://www.paragonmachineworks.com/...at-collar.html
It's a fairly involved repair https://www.instagram.com/p/BzjgoeeF..._web_copy_link

If you do decide to braze the bottle mounts you could also have a seat binder below the top tube, a 1 inch slot with round holes top and bottom and a seat binder brazed in the middle.

The Repairs suggested worked out Great for the 78 Schwinn superior
I ended up Just drilling and tapping the bottle mount holes for 5MM because the holes for Rivnuts seemed top big and I didn't want to weaken the tube. tightened up well
I Fabbed a Wedge style Seat post from Bin Parts. Had to make a Wedge from Aluminum barstock from Mcmaster Carr, Drill a hole and countersink in top of seat tube ad cut it at angle. The seat on it was split design so that make adjustment easy.

Made the Bracket for Brake hanger from a slice of 1 1/8 Stainless Tubing
I had a set of 27 x 1-3/8th tires Be, Changed Handlebars for comfort and have n using it for Gravel and Dirt Trails.
