Practice Tubing coming!!!

I was going to stop by McMaster Carr today and pickup some 3/8" tubing as I want to play around practice brazing for a rack. But they have closed all Will Call. So it will be delivered here tomorrow for $7.
Will probably go out riding tomorrow but with the weather looking bleak the rest of the week I thought it would be great to do some practice.

3/8 is big for a rack, just in case you haven't bought a tube bender yet

I wanted to use 5/16" but it is quite a bit more expensive. Thought I would make some "dies" up by turning them out of wood.

Yes Tom, your wood working skills will apply here! If you make a bending die (remember to have the die support the tub's sides, like a pulley) and find it works well you might both post a photo and offer to make more for others. I have a number of wood tube holding blocks and fork raking mandrels made by others. Andy

Andy that is my thought. I have started playing around with a design for a rear rack that will be mounted at the cantilever posts. I have drawn a large arch using various circles,a paint can!, to get some ideas. Then I will turn the appropriate diameter die.
UPS comes this afternoon!!

I bend 5/16" tubing with a 5/8" die all the time. Doesn't seem to flatten it much at all.
