Aluminum frame. Chain slap damage.

What sort of repair should I consider if any?

Looks like chipped paint to me. Clean it and apply some rubber grip tape or helicopter tape to prevent future damage.

I think that chainstay is irreversably dirty.

I don't see any damage to any metal, so just clean it, put some opaque tape over it, and replace the chain ring as necessary.

Thanks for the info.

Might just get the whole frame stripped and painted, then add protection for the area.

Bike needs an overhaul anyway
