Any one built Greenspeed from scratch?

I'm interested in having a greemspeed built by a local frame builder. However, before placing order for the plan, I'd like to hear some feed back. Thanks.

A guy at my school in year 9 has built many trikes and lowracers, some built on greenspeed designs, some on trisled designs. I'm hoping to scab a lowracer off him for cheap, cause the trisled design lowracer he copies is F-ing fast. He uses normal mild steel instead of chromoly or alu. He did a welding course at a local community college, and bought a welder from a hardware store.
If a year 9 14yr old can do it, your frame builder can do it.

Have you also considered how much cheaper it will be with a frame builder compared to buying new from greenspeed (is it the same more or less?)

Thanks lisitsa for your kind posts. The local frame builder is very good, and has built many exotic frames. He also did some copies. His prices are very reasonable, and he likes to explore into new things.

I was thinking of building a trike over the next few months-- I work at and have access to a complete sheetmetal/machining/welding/powdercoating shop, and I could probably pick up a good portion of the material needed just from scrap we have around. Anyways, I was thinking of buying the Greenspeed plans as well. Does anyone have any experience with them and know what format they are in and how complete they are? Something like an Autocad or Solidworks file with a complete BOM would be ideal ;). OTOH, does anyone know of another place to get plans from?

I'm considering the Tandem Trike frame kit from Greenspeed. I'm thinking of buying the kit first, then using the plans to make a second (that time from aluminum). I'm wondering what people's experience is; how precise do my welds have to be. I've taken a course and made some furniture and own a Miller mini mig. Am I asking for trouble, or is it just as straight forward as it seems it should be.

Cost differences are astounding. The finished Tandem sells for around $8k where as the frame kit is only $1k and I estimate about another $1k for parts to complete it.

Who's done it, and was it worth it?
