Banke frame
From my LBS, I got a gigantic Banke "Texas SE" frame, 69c-c, 67 c-c top tube!! Someone got it for 5 bucks at the thrift store with an old campy group on it and stripped the group, and didn't want the frame, so I got lucky to get it. the frame is steel with columbus rear dropouts, but I am not sure of a lot of things. Seems now that banke builds motorcycles, and there isn't much current info on bicycles. Anyone with info this?

took some pics of the frame, some ovalizing of the tubes around the bottom bracket, the seat tube, the down tube, and the chainstays are super ovalized. Not sure how to measure the headtube, but end to end it is 27cm. I am ecstatic to have gotten this frame. there's some bubbling on the paint in a couple spots, but some paint flaked off in places and it wasn't real rusty under there.

The Banke frames were built in Fort Worth, TX. George built them and his wife Betty painted them. I know he built quite a few of them. On many of them the centerline of the downtube didn't go through the center of the BB shell. This would allow for one less miter, or cope, on the downtube, although I don't know if that was the reason. I can't tell for sure from the pictures, but many times the downtube was ovalized at the BB shell. I've repainted and done repairs on many of them over the years. The original paint was less than durable. On many of them the heat marks and Tange logo were still on the tubes when I removed the original paint. They usually didn't get blasted and cleaned before painting so the paint had virtually no adhesion. I think I still have a bunch of his vinyl stickers stashed away somewhere.
I understand that George and Betty moved to Nevada when they closed up shop in Fort Worth. He always did work on Go Karts and now I think he does that full time. |
Banke Stickers
I'm wondering if you might be willing to sell some of your Banke decals/stickers? I just picked up a mtb frame and would love to repaint and the correct decals would be awesome. Please let me know. Thank you -Christopher

1995 Banke 19.5” mountain bike with Bontragger forks and Soft Ride suspension stem.
I bought this frame new when the guy who ordered it decided to go to a full suspension frame. I’m 62 now and back problems keep me from riding it now. Any idea what a good price to sell it for would be? It’s in great condition with just one scratch where the paint is missing. Had it rebuilt on systems 5 years ago to try to get back on it. Thank you for any information.
