bike school

so recently I've really wanted to learn how to make my own frame. I'm in NYC, and I might want to make this little venture my vacation. What is the best way to learn -- enroll in a local class (any specific places you might suggest?) -- or should I contact a local builder in NYC and see if I can help him out on the weekends...etc etc...
thanks!

In Colorado, there's Yamaguchi, and in Ashland, Oregon there's United Bicycle Institute. Both have good reputations for teaching framebuilding.

I went to UBI last july, it was a blast! The teachers and facilities are top notch. Also you'll leave with the best "souvenir" ever.

I think there is/was another guy offering classes in the midwest/Chicago area?. I don't recall his name (possibly Doug?) or if he knows what he is doing. He hangs out (or did when I use to subscribe) on the www.bikelist.org framebuilders mail list.

I think you mean Doug Fattic, he's highly regarded. He has a class starting tomorrow (Sun) and on Dec 2.
