Edge/alpha q/ if steel forks
 

Hi All,
I am having an Indy Fab 953 ssr built. Would like to get thoughts n opinions regarding edge composties, alph q and indy fab forks. Please share your 2 cents. I like the steel indy fab for the looks. would it ride better than the other 2. i know it will be heavier but besides that what are the pro's n cons etc...
My current ride is a specialized epic with an aluminum fork. I will be about 135-140 pounds when i recieve the bike (i was 175 3 months ago).

Someone here might know, but it really isn't a building question, you might a ride specific forum.

The old style Alpha Q forks are pretty stout so if you go that way, you might want to get the lightweight model which will flex more. Hard to say about the steel fork from IF, some steel fork blades are thin and flexible and others are thick and unyielding. I think you are going to have to talk to IF about this subject to get more information.

As an aside, those old aluminum forks like on your current bike are quite soft and compliant. Funny how aluminum frames are typically stiff but the forks are soft. Most likely your new bike will ride rougher regardless of which fork you choose.

IMHO the IF steel forks are overbuilt, but the AlphaQ and Edge forks are great.

Realistically though, any of those three options will work great. It's more of just getting the look you want.

I'm biased towards carbon generally.

I love alpha q's retention system of bonding in an insert into the steerer tube, then tensioning like you would do on an metal tube. Working with composites myself, I trust a good bond over a stinkin compression plug any day. Never comes loose, or rattles, even over cobbles. They have sucky customer service if you ever need it though.

I have built with edge chainstays a couple of times. Super customer service. Never used the forks. (I hear they are good?)
